the doctor had no business telling that information to his father, and no business telling anything to anyone like that in a waiting room. He should have his license pulled - it doesn't get much more unprofessional than that.

Those who forget the past force the rest of us to repeat it.

Report it to the medical board. That is a violation of HIPPA. That is why when kids are in college , they sometimes commit suicide without the parents knowing how depressed they were. The college cannot tell the parents what is going on without the kids permission. That would really bother me. One time when my daughter was hospitalized , my sister in law looked at her lab tests on the hospital computer. That really bothered me and that was before the Hippa laws were in effect. Another time, that same daughter looked her self in the bathroom and spit her medicine at a nurse when she was having a painful procedure done at the hospital. The doctor told my sister in law that my daughter acted up during the test. That was a violation of confidentiality and I stopped taking my daughter to him.

THC is the stuff in marijuana that makes you high. The resin stuff.

Wanted to add:

Even if it turns out that this isn't a big deal to your BF, it should be reported because you can be certain this doc is violating the privacy rights of other people too, and it should be addressed officially.

How would the doctor even know the father/employer was in the waiting room? I just don't get it. The only thing I can think of is he signed some sort of authorization or something. I mean, how does a doctor even know someone is with you in the waiting room? Especially your father/employer?

Actually THC isnt the resin. It is a chemical in the cannabis plant.

THC (TetraHydroCannabinol) is a chemical that is produced naturally in a marijuana plant when it goes in it's blooming stage, most commonly known as budding.

I dont think the dr should have told ANYONE without the patients permission.

My doctor laughed when I told him that my employer emailed 100 people to say I was not available for work because of Medical Issues". He said I could sue them, I said, yes, what a joke it's a $50 fine, he said yes. I doubt if you will find an attorney who would sue, but a complaint could be warranted.

First I would want to know why my doctor is doing a THC screen without my knowledge or consent.

Unless you got fired and could prove there was a connection between your termination and your Disability/FMLA status. Then you're lookin' at the big bucks.

I was thinking the same thing as I read all the replies. Anytime I was ever drug tested, I had to sign a consent form. I'm sure he didn't ask for a drug test and if you have the flu (which I have had many times and went to the doctor for many times and never once got drug tested because I had the flu/cold)) why on earth would a doctor check for drugs anyway. What does one have to do with the other? Something is fishy. There just all kinds of wrong going on somewhere.
