Direct deposit IRS refund into someone else's account?
I've searched for an answer to this and can't find one, short of calling the IRS. >.<

My sister wants to put my account information down to have her refund deposited into my account, since it would be faster than a check. Has anyone ever done this? She doesn't have any checking or savings accounts.

Thanks for any advice or experiences you can share!

They don't ask you to verify whose account it is (at least with Taxact). You just put in the routing number of the bank and the account number.

The only problem I see is on your banks end. I would contact them and ask them if it would be ok and if there is anything you need to sign. I know dh's paycheck kept getting hung up when we first switched to direct deposit because payroll had it down as a checking account vs a savings (we only have savings), they refused to deposit it even though the account numbers actually matched but the box for "Checking" was checked instead of savings, payroll had to correct it before they would allow it to be deposited, this was a bank we have done business with for 10 years and they all know us by first name. I would imagine running into a similar problem when something is being direct deposited and the names dont match.

I had her cards within 4 days and her money was on it within 7 days....just like direct deposit.

If you call the IRS, they will tell you that you can't do it, but my friend had her federal refund direct deposited into our account with no problem at all.
