Gotta love double-standards.

I have no idea!!! Possibly because the people view things simply through emotion? Or maybe they don't care about their fellow citizens as much as they do foreigners? Maybe they were abused as a child and fear that more than they fear death, so punishing possible abusers is more important than punishing possible murderers?

I don't know why these people are inconsistent. You'd have to ask them, not me.

ETA: I only pulled your post, lisacna, because it was the first I ran across actually saying due process. I've noticed a few others, as well. So this comment is directed to all the people that are fine with possible terrorists being free to kill us, men, women, and children, (based on their religious principles), but if there's possibly just a child who might be in danger (also due to religious principles), the accused are guilty until proven innocent.

The hypocrisy is amazing!

Due process was followed in the Texas case. And those children were not held in legal limbo for 6 years without ever having their day in court. After 2 months, those children were reunited with their parents.

After 6 years, none of the detainees have had their day in court.

It's only fair that they should be tried right let's talk about fairness to the 911 victims or any other victims of terrorist. It's only fair after all.

Then what to do with them? You really never answered that? Should we just execute them? What then?

I would think that any victim of 9/11 (or their families) would want to see all those connected with that tragic day brought to justice and to pay for their involvement in that act.

But to do a broad sweep to collect those of Iraqi nationality and hold them indefinitely is not serving any type of justice.

The people that committed 9-11 are all dead. How many Muslims should pay for the crimes of a few - all the Bush administration can round up? Do you know how many detainees that the US, Britain and Canada are making reparations to? - hundreds. The US already has the man that claimed to be the mastermind in custody, what more do you want. If you want unreal -- why aren't you complaining about Bush's failure to capture or kill bin Laden.

As for the relatives of those that died on 9-11. They are not complaining, most spouses received $3-5 million (untaxed) and each minor will receive $1 million (untaxed) upon their 18th birthday.

Because of the children that were taken from their parents without due process. Their parents were treated as criminals before there was factual evidence. There were simply rumors.

Well, if it's ok to take kids away from parents based on rumors, I think it's ok to take people away from homes based on rumors of them being tied to plans to kill people.

So neglecting due process is ok, but only for a certain period of time?

The children wouldn't have been taken away in the beginning if due process was followed. Now they've had more exposure to our "great nation". If they don't find these people guilty of any crime, I'd be interested to see if they can file harassment charges based on the first amendment.

Your right ---its never ok to refuse due process. Its hard but when a person can look at it without emotion clouding judgement it becomes easy to see.

What do you propose? that all "possible terrorists" the world over be detained?

And you do have it correct, in this country the public would rather see the law err on the side of innocent children than allow them to be raped or abused, wouldn't you? This group is free to sue the government, who knows, if they have a case they may even be financially rewarded. So now if they have been collecting tax rebates and food stamps for their large families they will now be rewarded with a huge lump sum of your tax dollars.
