Hood release broken - ?on a fix
Our Cherokee will let release the hood, does not matter how hard you pull it so I think maybe the cable is broken, is there any way to bypass the inside one and force it to open from the outside? Really need to get some wiper fluid in there. Thanks to anyone who can help and to those who care enough to try

Michigan has been below freezing for a couple of weeks, we also had an ice storm a while back.
Is it possible this is frozen? My son has a van parked at college and it took him a few days before he was able to get the door to the gas cap open. All the doors to the van were frozen closed and it took a lot of work to get inside the van to start it up and run it and clean it off. If your cable release was damp (driving through snow, ice, or rain) and then it froze maybe all it needs is to thaw out. Would a hot car wash help or make it worse? I don't know what to do if it is broken. I hope you find out.

What you need to have are skinny 4 ft. long arms to reach up from underneath, and then use vise grips to grab the cable (it comes to the catch from one side) and pull it hard away from the catch). http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/fe...461457001.html Googling found this...but I don't think it's Cherokee specific... Jeep creep please HELP! I have a new problem for my 1993 jeep Cherokee. My hood release cable is broken and I can't check or add fluids. I briefly took off the grill hoping for an easy out but I was not able to get at it. I have looked for a way in from under the car but I am reluctant to start pulling things off without a plan. Where should I focus my next effort? I had just topped off my fluids when it broke but it has been over a month now. I am passed worried and well into frightened. The only good news is I don't need to drive it much. I am way under 300 miles since the event. Thanks Jeep creep I am thinking you will have a quick cure to this affliction. Larry. Hi Larry, There's no easy way. There are only two ways I know of to do the job. You can take out the headlights and go through the headlight buckets. The other way is to grab the cables up through the engine compartment. My arms ain't long enough for that. LEVE Very easy fix. I took a shot at cutting the cable casing from the inside and pulling the exposed cable with pliers. Surprisingly it worked and all was good under the hood. I am happy to see that replacing the hood release will be an easy one as well. Thanks for your input I would not have felt to good about cutting that cable without a reliable escape plan. Thanks again Larry http://jeep.off-road.com/jeep/articl....jsp?id=330193
