Unhappy Computer STILL horrendously slow
Lets' see - I ran cccleaner, iobit, cleared out cache, dumped cookies, cleared all temp files- running a daiy Iobit.
I have 48.5 of 74.5 GB's available. I dumped prefetch, ran scandisk, ran defrag.
One of the lovely programs deleted my router so I had to reinstall.

I have no TSR's and ran a Windows troubleshoot to no avail.

I ran a tracert and this is what I got on 3: destination not reachable Trace completed

I upgraded to IE7 but that doesn't seem to help. I have DSL that's supposed to be at 614.4 kbps but it's running slower than when I had dialup

I need to win a new computer!

have you tried hard re-cycling of your modem? Turn off your computer, unplug your modem, wait 30-60 seconds, re-plug the modem and wait for it to cycle back up and then turn on your computer.

Also, is it just your internet that's slow or are all your programs opening/running slower?

I have unplugged it and plugged it back in - but while the computers on.
I don't notice anything else being slow but I really only use this computer for internet.

My bet:

START >RUN> Type in MSCONFIG

Look under start up. It sounds to me like you have too many programs running in the background, (even through they aren't open) and it is slowing you down.

Look in the list and see if you can identify any programs that don't need to be started when the computer turns on.

Maybe that will fill up some resources for you ,,, its helped me in the past.

Lots of times when you install programs, by default they go to the start up folder.

Also did you try uninstalling any programs that you don't use or have no use for?

Good Luck.

Have you called your DSL provider to see if there's any problem with the line?

If your using IE 7 forget about it.
I have a fast processor and IE 7 is slower then a can of beans
And my puter is tweaked out and over clocked in the bios.
