This is usually real.
I sell a few things on ebay and get this when someone sends me an echeck from their bank. It's like an electronic check and so it has to clear the bank like a regular check. It will take a few days and then it will show up in your paypal account.

Exclamation student credit card scam
This is different but I got this email today regarding a payment due on a student credit card. I don't even have a card from them. I don't know if they are trying to get your $15 (uh maybe) or more importantly your credit card number. I noticed that you cannot send a responce back to them...

I do alot of stuff through PayPal, and I get the ePending checks from people all the time, but when PayPal contacts you about the Pending check, there isn't a link to click on the email. You have to go to your account to see it, and next to the transaction it would say "Pending". You did the right thing by forwarding it to Paypal, and not clicking on the link.
