I need help hooking up DSL on a second computer. Please?
I'm trying to help my parents with their Verizon DSL hook up. I have installed it on one of their computers, but I'm having trouble getting their second computer to reconize the router on the first one. They have purchased a UBS 2.0 adapter, I hooked that up per instuctions but it still says it can't find the router. ????? Any Help Please?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Don't you need a network hub? I am not really sure, I only have one computer.

Can you give me a little more info about the router?

Is it wired or wireless? What brand and model?

Can you hook the DSL modem directly to the second computer and get it to work, bypassing the router?

If you can then that would point the problem to the router and not the second computer.

I'll help as much as I can.

I do not have an answer, but we have the same problem. If you find a solution, please let me know. We can hook-up X-Box and Playstation for online games, but the second computer just will not connect.

Did you install a network card?? either wired or wireless will do. A network card is different from a USB port btw

wireless Router plugs directly into the computer. Your External DSL modem plugs into the router. Check that first. When I first got my set up, the dsl modem was connected to the computer directly but once you put a router into the mix, you have to put it between the modem and the router. After that the usb adapter should have come with software that you have to use to install the wireless. You do NOT need a network card on the 2nd computer. Thats what the adapter is for.

I have 4 computers in my house; all connect through a wireless network

Thank you all for taking the time to answer me. It is a wireless connection, we have the filters on all their phones, and one computer is working great I just can't get the second computer set up. It says there is no signal. I'm not there right now so I can't give you the name of the router or any other answers. I will be trying again tomorrow afternoon. I will let you know if any of your suggestions worked for me. Thanks again.

First, you have to make sure that the wireless access point is turned on in the router. You have to go to the router settings on a comuter that's hardwired to the router. You can run a cat 5 from one computer to the router temporarily to do this. You have to look for a setting called "enable radio" or something similar (different brands name it differently)
I'm assuming you don't have an encrypted wireless network. If you do, you must first make sure that you enter the encryption information either in the windows network utility or in the wireless adapter's utility (if you installed it).

I dont know how to connect them. DH did all that along with alot of cursing. We have Verizon and bought a wired router. We worked on it for 5 hours! Verizon blamed the router ppl and vice versa. Finally, we got them both on the line at the same time and fixed it. It was a problem with the router connecting to Verizon.

Good luck and I hope you get it fixed soon.
