Question about AOL service
Ok here is my question. My grandmother got a AOL account about 8 years ago. I opened a email address under her account. My grandmother has since moved and can't use the AOL account and wants to close it. Can I still keep my email address? Do I need to open a AOL account to have a AOL email address and if I need to open one under my name could I still use my old email name? Thanks for any help.

No, you can't use an AOL address without an AOL account. You'd have to check with AOL to see whether you could open an account of your own and use the same e-mail address. If you can't, they might be able to transfer your grandmother's account to you. It doesn't hurt to ask.

No. I had the same situation with my Mother. They told me some bs that I don't remember. They are pains in the butt anyway if you want to ask me. If you don't have a credit card you can have them bill you through your phone carrier in most instances I think. Good luck

I'm pretty sure that AOL WILL allow you to take your name and start a new account with it. Is there any way that your Grandma might keep the account and have you pay the fee?

Thanks everyone for your reply's. I am going to call AOL tommorrow and ask them if I can just transfer the account into my name. MY grandma just wants to get the thing out of her name so I will see if I can just transfer my old email name into a new account. Thanks again.

All you have to do is sign on to Grandma's account, under your screen name, and there is an option for your screen name to have their own account. That's all you have to do.

MrsM is right. It's called spunning and I've done it before. You do have to log in under your grandmother's account, and it's under manage screen names. Next to your user name there will be an option to make it its own account.
