Lasik Eye Surgery
Hello Everyone,
I was thinking of getting Lasik Eye Surgery. I really hate wearing glasses and contact (not at the same time of course).

I was wondering if anyone ever had it done and how it turned out? Did it hurt? Do they put you to sleep? How soon were you able to see good?

What was your cost? I am hoping to finance but if it is too much then I will have to wait.

Thanks for all your advice!

Katrina

I had Lasik done in February, and it was the best $5000 I've ever spent. I am so happy that I bit the bullet & had it done.

It didn't really hurt during the process, but when they cut the flap, it was extreme pressure against the eye and was very uncomfortable for me. There are different processes used to cut the flap, and this was the all laser method. Afterwards, there wasn't much pain, I just took Motrin & rested. Again, more uncomfortable than anything else.

You are awake during the process, however they did give me a valium about a hour before the procedure. The whole thing took less than 2 hours for me.

Prior to having lasik, my vision was 20/200. The day after surgery I could see at 20/15. And all it's done is gotten sharper since then. At the 1 month mark, I could see a little bit of the 20/10 line. The first 2-3 weeks, my vision wasn't real consistant. Some days were better than others, and my eyes got real tired real fast. They say it takes about 3-4 months for your vision to really stabilize.

I still have a little bit of extra glare at night while driving, but I already had night blindness to begin with, so it's nothing I'm not used to.

And NOTHING beats being able to see the alarm clock from across the room!

And you'll reach for your glasses that you don't need anymore when you get out of bed. It took me a couple weeks to break that habit! You'll love the freedom! Mine didn't hurt except a little scratchiness for 1/2 day after the surgery but I could see a few hours afterward. I drove my DH nuts on the way home yelling out street and highway signs that I could actually see!

Go for it because you won't regret it!

I gave myself this surgery for my 42nd birthday, on my birthday, it was the best present I ever got!! I highly recommend it, I am 45 now, so it's been 3 years and while I have lost some distant sight slightly, I am still without glasses, even reading glasses aren't needed and prior to the surgery my contact prescription was -6.75!

The only draw back was I had horrible night vision after the surgery, so much so that I could barely walk, no less drive comfortably. But it lasted, at it's worst, for about 1 year and I did drive at night and survived. I don't know how common this is though, I've spoken to others that didn't suffer this side-effect.

I don't think you'd regret it one bit, it's such an amazing thing to go through, when you're like me, who has worn glasses since 3rd grade!

mine only cost $3k. best money i ever spent on myself. both day vision and night vision are awesome.

one thing: when they tell you to focus on the red dot, try as hard as you can. i don't know if it was the valium or the lack of eye flap, but i just couldn't do it!

i had it done 5 years ago at it's been awesome
i agree it's the best money you'll spend it's worth it
no problems and still have perfect vision after all this time

my advice do not go to the cheapest person you find it is your eyesight after all
find someone who knows what they are doing and ask around for who others used
your results will depend upon who is doing it.

good luck
