Floridas' Children Left Behind?
Jeb Bush seeks to have a special election in September that will tie a teachers raises to eliminating a class-reduction size bill that was passed in 2002! So if a person votes on the raise for teachers they would vote to increase class size! The special election would cost about 18 million dollars, but we don't have enough money to pay for the reductions in class size! When is this doublespeaking and misguided party going to realize we are aware of their tactics! So much for the No Child Left Behind theory!

and no matter how you vote on it, either the teachers will lose or the kids will lose.

That's a very odd way of controlling spending. I'm not sure, but I'd say he's not a very pro-education kind of guy :frown3:

It was an article from yesterdays' Saint Petersburg Times, in the City&State section!

here's a link from a tallahassee paper:

http://www.tallahassee.com/mld/talla...l/11196989.htm

this article is dated 3/22 and it states that the special election is looking unlikely because:

Quote:
requires a three-fourths vote in both the Senate and House. Ordinarily, it takes a three-fifths vote for the Legislature to place something on the ballot.

Politically savvy senators on both sides of the aisle said Monday that getting the 30 votes necessary in the 40-member Senate would be all but impossible. Out of 14 Democratic senators, four would have to join the Republican majority's 26 senators to approve a special election. Yet all Republican senators apparently aren't convinced about the content of the proposed amendment.
i don't know if the st pete times article is the same or not from this.

Thanks for the links. It's no secret he opposed the class size amendment, so this really shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Good points on both side of the issue.
