Exclamation Help! Before the Tech Hubby kills me!!!
OK, brilliant downloader that I am...here's what I did and I need to know what happened here...

My IE Auto Fill wouldn't auto fill when I typed in the first letter/number etc in a line, sooo I checked to see what version of IE I had since Tech Hubby just wiped out the hard drive and started from scratch because the computer kept crashing. (It was only IE 4!) So it doesn't crash anymore, but I went to CNET and downloaded IE 6 and then restarted the computer for good measure to make sure it kicked in. Now when I press the big e icon on the desktop, I can't load any pages. If I go to programs and hit internet explorer there, everything is groovy.
Still, the Auto-Fill, although it's enabled (I checked twice), isn't doing it's thing. What up?
Brent, Meydey, Shake-Man, Katie, anyone? I am such a techno-ditz...I should hang out with tcknodncman! (Spelling from memory...)
Did I really mess up, or does the icon on the desktop need to be re-set somehow?
And why, oh why won't my Auto-Fill work?
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Mare "panicking in NorthGroovyVille" Rivera

PS-If you hit the Help button, it still says IE 4.0...I give up.

Mare,

It would be my quess that the desktop icon BIG E is a shortcut to EI 4... the old one, and is no longer going to work for you because you now have EI 6 installed.

If you go to programs, then right click IE 6... there should be something like SEND TO... and Desktop (shortcut). If there is, click it and make a new shortcut for the desktop that will work with the new version of EI.

Go to the old shortcut for EI 4 (on the desktop) and right click it, then click delete.

If I understand what you have written... this should do it, and Tech Hubby might never know?!

Good luck.
Andrea

Well, it seems it's still Internet 4.0 when I click on "Help" and then "About Internet Explorer" so that's not a panic now, although I just don't get how I could have downloaded 6.0 and it still insists that it's 4.0.
What I'm still trying to understand is why the Auto-Fill which is part of IE doesn't Auto-Fill.

Appreciate the help. Now I know how to send shortcuts and delete shortcuts. John Cleese says if he learns one new thing each day, he goes to bed happy. So, I guess I'll go to bed happy, now.

So weird replying to one's own reply...but CHECK IT OUT...

The Tech Hubby called me (he's doing some recording at a friend's studio) and I mentioned that the Auto-Fill doesn't fill...so he says, OK, well, we'll download Gator or something. Then I say, "No way! Gator is spy software AND it crashes the computer. Everyone I sweep with uses Robo-Form." Then he says," OK we can download Robo-Form. Alright! big woo-hoo's! for THAT...but there's more...
He says, "You know if I upgrade to IE 6.0 then Auto-Fill should work." (Ohmigod...I'm not such a ditz after all...) Then I confess..."Yeah I tried that. I went to CNET and downloaded it and it didn't change it. Then he says, "You did? Well, it didn't work because I'll have to do it manually." It's not my ineptness on the computer!
So I will get my IE Auto-Fill and Robo-Form, too! Maybe I better get some sleep. Tomorrow (well actually today) will be like Christmas!!! Ho, ho, ho...

Congrats Mare, you're going to love roboform. You're going to be amazed at how fast you'll be enter your sweeps. So what will you do then? You'll just find more sweeps to enter because you now have extra time. So enjoy!

You should have asked Tech hubby for roboform before.

dj,

The answer before for years was, "no." That's why I'm so psyched!
