Anyone with thyroid problems??
I went to my doctor on Jan.16 because I was tired of having no energy, gained 25 pounds in nothing flat and I just knew this wasnt me...they asked about thyroid, I told them I had always been told it was enlarged and had ultrasounds/blood tests for the disease over the last few years..blood work was always negative...thyroid ultrasound showed nodule but it was nothing they said. So I didnt expect any different result this time...I still don't understand everything ..they said one of my levels was so low it barely registered but that I had hyperthyroidism?
They put me on a medication called Tapazole. It has some nasty side effects although I have experienced NONE of them and after one day of taking this medication I was out washing 3 cars, cleaning them inside and out...scrubbing my house top to bottom again....so i have no doubt this is the fix but does anyone else have this problem? What do you take for it? My mother has it and she takes Synthroid...I just want the best medicine with the lowest side effects.....they also said I didnt have all the typical symptoms of the disease...? Any input is appreciated guys.....thanks

I had an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) for a few years until I got pregnant with my 3 year old and it stabilized. I was taking Synthroid before the endocrinologist took me off of it when my throid hormone stabilized. I usually have it checked once a year and it has remained normal. Synthroid is effective and inexpensive--I'm surprised you were prescribed a new medication. Those pharmaceutical companies will do anything to make more money.

I had high thyroid (Graves disease) and now I have no thyroid. I take daily medication to replace the hormone. I was on Synthroid and the generic version is called Levothroid. I take that now. It can take a while for the docs to find the right dose of medication but you will feel better when they do.

Here is a link to an article you might like to read. I am sure there are tons more if you search for them. http://mercksource.com/pp/us/cns/cns...cle/001159.htm

My Mother had something wrong with her thyroid 10 years ago and she took a radioactive pill to knock it out of commission. I don't know if she takes something daily because of it.
I have been tested for diabetes, I think maybe my thyroid should be checked too.

my dh had what skpaw had, he was losing weight without even trying(lost over 30 lbs), his hair thinned out a little, he would sleep about 5 hours a night and had incredible energy. his went haywire before they knew he had it and it ate up all of the potassium in his body. so, he woke up paralyzed in the middle of the night(he had sensation, just no ability to move) he ended up getting it treated with the radioactive iodine, and now has no thyroid and must take synthroid. he has to go in and get tested every 6 months to a year, and in the past 5 years they adjust his medication at least once a year.
