Retired Gen. Wesley Clark accuses Romney of ‘rehashing Cold War fears’
Quote:
Former Democratic presidential candidate and retired Gen. Wesley Clark on Tuesday blasted Mitt Romney for claiming that Russia was the “number one geopolitical foe” of the United States.

“Surely one lesson of the 21st Century is that America’s security in the world depends on making more friends and fewer enemies,” Clark said in a statement.

“Governor Romney’s statement sounds like a rehash of Cold War fears,” he continued. “Given the many challenges we face at home and abroad, the American people deserve a full and complete explanation from Governor Romney. Good policy does not come from bumper sticker slogans. The next president is going to have to take America forward, out of war, and into other challenges. The rekindling of old antagonisms hardly seems the way to do it.”

Speaking with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Seoul on Monday, President Barack Obama was caught saying he would have more flexibility after the elections.

Romney said the incident was “terribly wrong” and “alarming.” He accused the president of planning to do something “frightening” in regards to nuclear arms treaties or missile defense sites.

“This is to Russia, this is without question our number one geopolitical foe, they fight every cause for the world’s worst actors, the idea that he has some more flexibility in mind for Russia is very, very troubling indeed,” Romney told CNN
