I got a windows update day before yesterday that froze my computer (laptop). I had to take it to "I Fix-IT" Shop which is nearby. This is a very reputable and popular repair shop that fixes anything like computers, phones, smart pads, gaming stuff etc. There is often a line inside. The owner does the "in-take" at the front desk and some of the repairs but he has enough business to have at least 2 technicians in the back room. He said that a lot of folks were bringing computers in with problems from windows updates. He got mine un-froze and didn't charge me anything.

That was nice of him, so far everything seems to be ok.

How interesting, even though the shop got it un-froze, I had the to do the same as you
When I got home, I had some work to do on putting everything back where it was. I suppose the update moved things around.

I got my update while I was running Advanced System Care 10. Maybe that kept things in place for me. Only a few icons moved around.

Didn't lose photos, but the trackpad scroll stopped working and can't figure out how to get it working again.. going to a shop for a different warranty issue so will add that to the list. Thank you Microsoft!
