Signature Guidelines
Please see this thread for the most up to date information from Brent! PM's are no longer sent when a signature is out of compliance, the signature is deleted.

Hey y'all! The mods have been trying really hard to keep the signatures within guidelines. For awhile the boards were looking great, but its becoming more than a full time job to maintain. Many people refuse to change their signatures and have ignored PM's from mods asking them to change.

Effective immediately if you receive a PM from a mod, you will have 3 days to bring it into compliance. If after 3 days you have not changed your signature, it will be removed. We're just trying to keep the board looking good for everyone and would appreciate everyone's help!

Edit Signature: http://www.online-sweepstakes.com/fo...=editsignature

All signatures must follow these guidelines:
  • A signature may contain a maximum of 2 images and/or smilies.
  • Images in signatures can be no larger than 100 pixels in height, 420 pixels in width and 12k in size. If your signature contains 2 graphics, their combined file size must be 12k or less.
  • Signatures should take up no more screen space than the equivalent of 5 lines of normal sized text (size=2) with a maximum of 90 characters per line. The screen space that your signature occupies includes all graphics and blank lines. Therefore, the bigger the graphic(s) in your signature, the less space you're going to have available for text. Use of a smaller font size (size=1) will allow you to squeeze in an extra line or two.
  • Font size should not exceed 3. Keep in mind, that the bigger font size will mean that your signature will take up more screen space which is still subject to the original space limitation of 5 lines of normal sized text (size=2).
  • You can provide a link to your web site and/or win page in your signature. However, affiliate and referral links through which you stand to gain monetarily are not allowed, this includes links to web pages that are mostly affiliate or referral links.
  • Referral links or vote for me requests for sweepstakes and contests are generally permissible (affiliate links and other links from which you stand to receive payment are generally not permissible), but the links must not be deceptive.
  • Signatures must also be in compliance with all other rules of the forums.
I would like to add that OLS does not allow the referral links for the freeipods, freedesktops, freetvs, etc and those links will be removed, just as they are deleted in the forums.

Styflan has a great post with help for image hosting here.

We love to see your list of wins in your signature ~ but it would be much better if you converted it to a MyWins list and linked it there. Instructions for that are found here. The win lists tend to get very long and this looks much better!

OLS rules still apply to signatures. You may not have a referral/vote request button for Winzy or Blingo or any other referral/vote request in your signature until you have been a member for 90 days and have 100 posts.

Check your character count here.

If after reading the above threads, you still aren't sure how to fix yours, I have set up this thread for people to ask questions and get help from fellow members

Thanks for helping make OLS a pleasant place to be

Bumping this up to remind everyone of the rules. All of those tickers out there are not compliant.

Remember we will PM you once and then remove your signature after 3 days. If you have been PM'd once and your signature is out of compliance at another time, it will be removed without another PM.

The mods and myself are trying very hard to keep this board looking good, being rude to the person that PM's you is not acceptable. We all need to work together on this so that we can keep signatures and not have to do away with them completely

Just wanted to remind everyone of this - because we are deleting signatures if you have received a PM in the past but continue to be out of compliance.

If you have been PM'd once and your signature is out of compliance at another time, it will be removed without another PM.

I would like to add that these rules and guidelines are here for YOU to try and understand and not to have us point out everything after we pm you about a signature that is out of compliance. Some of you are not reading them because you ask me to tell you what is wrong. Then when I tell you, you understand, so you are obviously not reading them first. Try first then if you are not sure and need help, use the help thread provided!

Please take the time to read them and use the guidelines.

Review these most common errors:

1) Remember that in a graphic you are looking at three properties:
The height (100), the width (350) and the bytes (12,288). And only two graphics are allowed. The combined amount for the graphics should not exceed the limits.

2) You have to wrap your lines so that only 90 characters are on each line. Look on your profile page and check it from there. (Hint) Hit enter in front of a line to make sure it goes down to the next line. It may not move to your vision and will show up after the edit. Check it afterward to see.

3) 5 lines allowed.. and the space of what 5 lines would take up with normal (size 2) font.

Not only do I want to win, I also do not want to lose.

We need a as we have been deleting lots of signatures - if you have been PM'd in the past - you aren't getting another one - everyone is expected to follow the guidelines. Y'all have been doing AWESOME but they are starting to get out of control again. Thanks to everyone who helps us keep our eyes peeled and for those of you that comply we appreciate it!!

Just a reminder that if you have been PM'd in the past about your signature - you will not receive a second PM - your signature will be deleted.

Effective immediately all tickers that exceed 350x100 (as most of the long ones do, the square ones from snugglepie are usually fine) will be deleted without warning.

To find out if your signature is in compliance ~ right click and look at the properties. If your signature has more than 12,000 total bytes and is larger than 350x100 it is out of compliance.

This post by greensthings is a fabulous example - if your siggy doesn't fit into that space - its too big. Right click to find out how many bytes it has

We appreciate your help with this - but they are starting to get out of control again

Bumping this up as a huge reminder because I've deleted a TON of tickers lately - be sure and check out the guidelines again and remember that the longer snugglepie tickers don't cut it - gotta use the smaller box ones - utilize the link to the post by greensthings - its fabulous!!

Just giving this a bump as a friendly reminder to keep an eye on your siggy's! We gave some wiggle room during the holidays but we'll be sending out PM's and deleting now that the holidays are over. Everyone take a moment to revisit the rules and make sure your signature is in compliance. Thanks for helping us keep this site fabulous!!

Signature Graphic Makers please read
If you are making graphics for people on the board please know that if you make a graphic 100 pixels in height, then they cannot put text under it.

One line of text equals to 20 pixels in height. So a graphic 80 pixels in height will allow one line of text under it etc...

I haven't figured out about the width, but if text is too long on the side it will not be allowed either. One way is to use small font and only a a couple of words of text and not center the graphic if it is 350 in width. But preferrable make the graphic smaller.

Please note this while making your graphics. You may want to make them accordingly to the persons use preferrance. If they want text then you need to make the graphics smaller.

Thanks.

Also you could please let them know that only two graphics are allowed per signature, including smileys.

Font should be no larger than 3.

Thank you.

Vicky

Bumping this up for those unfamiliar with the 1 PM and out policy.

Just wanted to remind people of this portion of the signature guidelines for a couple of reasons; a) there is no need to send multiple reports on the same person, since people have 3 days after being PMed to bring their signature into compliance; and b)not acknowledging or replying to the PM will not keep your signature from being deleted.

Thanks!
