The post we never wanted to make...
Today heaven gained the most amazing piano player to have graced this earth. Words can't express how she has changed the lives of humans and animals alike. We hope she is entertaining all of our loved ones. Until we meet again...

I know it's not easy, but realize it's for the best. How many do you have left now? So sorry.

Thanks Rhozalea.

My flock is down to 9 now. There are 2 older ones that are slowing down and one of them has malfunctioned and is laying eggs in her abdomen, so it won't be long for her.

We have adjusted to the idea of not having chickens. It's been a long time for me. Started my first flock in 1972, with a few years breaks now and then.

But age and ability is making it very hard to take care of them and in a couple of years neither one of us will be able to. So the timing should work out naturally.

Many of us here are slowing down. Our minds don't always think so, but body talks back. Dick got diagnosed with moderate COPD (non smoker, unless you count years of second hand smoke0 last year he's really slowed down some. I still do things outside as I always have. Cut grass weekly and lately have had to pick up storm debris from lots of trees here brought on by wind/rain storms we've had. Just so happy spring is here; I like things to be green. Hoping your hens have some spring grass to "mow". Maybe one family in the neighborhood has chickens now. I know the foxes, raccoons do get after them if they are around. We still have deer even though, at our house, we haven't seen them lately. They have babies now and since there's been no school for days now and children are out in their yards playing, screaming, etc., it may scare them away. We have been staying in as ordered except to go to grocery store and pharmacy which are just very close to our neighborhood. I've made some masks. Surely don't like wearing them, but it's better than catching something. Hope you two are in staying safe from the virus. Surely something I never pictured would hit here.. We probably won't venture out to places that may open on May 8 for some time after that. Our daughter lives in GA, also Dick's sister. My sister live in SC and some relatives live in FL. All states opening up!! Think they will all try to continue to be safe. I still think of many of your "girls" every now and then. Such good things to think about. Glad OLS is still around even though it "scared me" a couple of days when I couldn't get on. No wins lately, but I enter once in a while. Good luck to you if you are still entering. Stay safe and well from the virus. Helen

I am very happy to hear you and yours are OK.

The girls are out on the back yard grass.

We're not letting them out front, as I don't want to give anyone ideas when the stores no longer have chicken available.

I live in western Suffolk Co on Long Island. The foxes are out east of us, where there are more wooded areas. We don't even have snakes around here. All I ever see are birds.

Raccoons are primarily nocturnal and have never been a problem since the girls got to bed before the coons wake up.

I had 100-pk of masks, which I bought for the coop - it gets dusty in there, no matter how clean. So they have come in handy. Cost me $10 years ago. Now prices are ridiculous.

Take care, Helen.
