once the edit signiture is open, it will look just like a a reply box...look for the blue world with a piece of chain link in front of it (just under where you can choose font, font size and color). click it and a box will pop up, asking what you want the text to say..this is where you type in "name you want" ...click ok
So now in the box on the top I've got Western Home Decor and it's a link. I attempted to type in my etsy shop link in the edit signature box but all I get is "Oops, You have an error." I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

The simplest approach to what you're attempting is
type the Shop name (or whatever ELSE you want the visible text of a link to say), then
select that text (click-hold-and-drag to highlight it) and THEN
click the WWW-link icon -- in the popup box, type in the URL you want that link to lead to.
Like this:
Western Home Decor
(should open a new window with
this current comment as a quoted edit window).
To LOOK at what the format looks like, click the Western Home Decor link above, and you should see the [ URL = "http etc ]Western Home Decor[ / URL ] coding... (I had to "expand" the coding because otherwise it gets automatically translated).
Note: there ARE some "enable/disable" switches that CAN be set to disable HTML code in different situations, with a visible status displayed at the bottom of your page.
