Mine knocks whenever I have email.. something I have to figure out how to stop because I don't use it for email or internet use. I know how annoying these things can be!

for you both, all that stuff is ins settings. You can go in there and be bold, I don't think there's anything there that is irreversible.
Sorry I can't tell you step by step, I have an iPhone, so it would be a bit different.

Notification app settings
the phone's manual is usually right on board. just search app notifications. A list should pop up with a radio button on/off for each. app. Like this: (just a short list of all of my apps.) you should find the app and just deselect the notification button to turn it off. Hope that helped in your case.

It only seems to let you turn them off for 8 hours!! That stinks!

I find that if I make a comment on a post on FB and do not turn off notifications I will get an email for it but not a ding. I only get a ding with messaging.
Hope you have figured it out.

I did turn it off in my settings but the phone still dings and vibrates for every FaceBook message posted.
