unseen Big Bang Theory pilot
While searching for a certain clip from the Big Bang Theory I came across this unseen pilot episode that was originally rejected. Wow, it was a totally different show and I am SO glad this version was rejected so it could become the LOL masterpiece it is today.

Here's your Big Bang Theory trivia of the day: Long before Kaley Cuoco joined the CBS sitcom as Leonard and Sheldon's ditzy neighbor Penny, Chuck Lorre shot a pilot with unknown Canadian actress/VJ Amanda Walsh as his female lead. Walsh and her character -- a street smart gal with a sensitive core -- were both scrapped by Lorre after CBS rejected the pilot. Now, thanks to the wonder of the internet, that original episode (that even Lorre said "sucked") is available for your viewing pleasure.

Note that this pilot, initially shot for the 2006-2007 television season, included a nerdy character Gilda (Iris Bahr) who would later be replaced by Sheldon and Leonard's friends Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Raj (Kunal Nayyar). Also, the original theme music (Thomas Dolby's "She Blinded Me With Science") was later switched out for an original Barenaked Ladies score. Two years ago, when an interviewer suggested that fans might be interested in seeing the original pilot, Lorre responded, "Wow that would be something, we will see. Show your failures..."

I can't get the video to play.

All I see is a message that says: deze video is alleen beschikbaar op 123video.nl (which translates as this video is available only on 123video.nl).

I am SOOOO glad things changed. It wouldn't be the same without Penny, Howard and Raj

Plus Sheldon wasn't QUITE Sheldon.

That was definitely a different Sheldon in the unseen pilot.

I was going to watch it, but hearing this I think I'll leave it alone. The show they have now is too good, I don't want to burn any images into my brain if it's a crappy pilot.

It felt like I was watching a dream-sequence show. What life for Leonard might have been like if... Funny, but I'm glad they re-did it.

Having recently become ridiculously obsessed with The Big Bang Theory, I thank you ever so much for posting this!

It was really weird watching a pilot that had some of the same scenes, slightly different, as the aired first ep. And definitely weird that Sheldon had a sex life. I mean, in the aired pilot they had the sperm bank scene (though they didn't make any deposits) and there's a line where Leonard says that Sheldon is a 'semi-pro' at this. After watching even just a few more eps, that line is SOOO out of place, so a universe in which Sheldon has actually had sex is weeeeeeird.

I do kinda like the Gilda character, though, but I don't know that I'd like her as a full-time cast member.

Fun fact: The actors who play the characters of Stewart and Kripke were, if I recall, considered for the roles of Leonard and Sheldon, respectively. Read that on the website for the guy who plays Kripke.
