My sweet cousin sent me a box of homemade hammentaschen all the way from Texas. Lucky me!

I bought a big box of fresh strawberries for $2.99.

The top layer was wonderful, but underneath wasn't ripe enough, so I chopped the bottom layer up and the berries are marinating in sugar and balsamic vinegar. It sounds odd, but it is an old trick, the perfect fix for less-than-ripe berries. The balsamic vinegar and sugar and strawberry juice blend together to make a nice, not too sweet sauce. I plan to serve them over vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Now ... what to do about dinner?

Fresh pineapple. But I ate it before dinner. So was it actually dessert or just an appetizer?
