No sound
My sound is not working this morning -- what can I check -- everything is plugged in correctly, lit up, and set at same level as when it was working fine yesterday. I did create a movie CD last night which caused a memory shortage this morning, I think???? I don't know a lot about computers as you can tell.

This thread is for links/advice. You would be better served by starting a new thread.

In your post, name your system (XP,ME,98...)

And any progs (firewall, anti-virus...)

Sounds like you have 98 or ME? Reboot if your memory/resources are low (major flaw design - doesn't re-allocate resources when you finish using a prog and close it, so you have to either reboot, buy more memory, or upgrade to XP)

Start a new thread with this info, and I'll try to help you, amy

Never mind -- it started working again on its own after the computer had been turned off for a while.

Thumbs up A good site for help
Just had some awfully nasty malware on my computer (windowws.cc and couponsandoffers) I found the peeps on this site to be absolutely fantastic http://www.mytechsupport.ca I posted my problem and, although it took us all day, they managed to help me fix it (no more browser hijacking...woopie...). I had posted on another site and never got a reply (I believe it was the Tom Coyote site, but I think they're really busy there). Here, I got an answer within an hour and they worked with me until it was fixed. Click on the support forums and post your problem (spyware, hardware, operating systems, applications, gaming, etc). It is free and you sign up in the forums like you do here in order to post. Great site...they deserve the puffy polka

Have you tried it yet? I'd love to have RealPlayer without all the problems that comes with it, but I'm still reluctant to download this one - yet.

another good online scanning tool is at http://www.trendmicro.com

It will scan for trojans/viruses and clean them if able. You have to read the instructions on how to clean 'uncleanable' files ... but I use this site a few times a month and LOVE it

I think the main reason I've never been concerned about Sweepstakes Advantage is there's not one clean link over there. To get to the real links, you have to click through all those Referral links.

This site doesn't do that. If it did, I probably wouldn't use it, even for free. Too much trouble!

Pop-up problems?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First read this:
http://forums.g4techtv.com/messagev...threadid=147688
Do the first steps to see if you can remove the offender. If not, read further down to prepare and run a hijackthis log if it's determined you need one. This is a VERY powerful prog - please don't try to remove things on your own!!!

Then this:
http://forums.g4techtv.com/messagev...threadid=151389
So you know what to post for help - they are particular Also make sure to post what you've tried already, so they don't spin their wheels and waste your time

This is a link to their d/ld's page - lotsa goodies here!!!
http://forums.g4techtv.com/messagev...threadid=192397
For all the links to the freeware to protect your computer/run scans.

hth, amy

1. I do not understand what Sweeps Advantage has to do with thi topic.
2. Before Ken added that garbage ads he had this double link system that makes it harder for people to steal from him. In fact the person stealing from Brent start with Sweeps Advantage and quit because Brent's site it so easy to steal from. The ads came only recently like spring of this year.

Angry Dont Get them fixed at Best Buy!
I don't want to be a horrible person but I feel I should warn people who are haveing trouble with their PC's what happened to my mother with her computer at Best Buy. My mother has 2 pc's. One for the internet ( we call her big one) and the other to do her books on( we call her small one.) My mother is an elderly retired woman. She took her big pc into best buy and had them put memory in it, everything came out okay, so she took her small pc in to them to have memory put in it as well. She got the 90 day service plan along with it. When she got her pc home, it would not even boot up. It only said, " not enough memory" Being busy people it took a week or so before I could go with her to return it to the store for help. When we first took it to the counter for help, she explained to the young boy what happened, and he insisted that it was a virus. I explained to him that she does not go online with it, and there is no way it was a virus. His manager came and told mother it would cost her 59 dollars to leave it and get the virus out! I told her NO, do not do it, and the man raised his voice at me, telling my mother it is a virus and we can NOT check for a virus at home, We can NOT remove a virus at home etc... I told them that was a bunch of bull, but he convinced my mother that the only way to find out what was wrong with her pc was to pay the money and leave it. She paid the money, let them do their diognostic (sp?) test on it, and when she picked up the pc, they would not put in writing what they thought was wrong with it, and it is still broke. So she paid the money to put the memory in , it would not work since, then 60 more dollars ( 69 after tax) to find out what was wrong, and she knows nothing. I am at a loss as to what to do!!! I have called every number, and they go around and around. The worse part is, My mother did not put on her glasses when the boy gave her the paperwork from when she took it back in for them to look at, and that little jerk put on there that she brought it in to get a virus removed!!!!! And said her pc was dirty!!!! I am soooooo angry!!! So people please, just beware who you have look at your computers, my mother now has a thousand dollar machine that is worthless because they wont stand by their word!
