Here's an all-purpose great site
The forums here are excellent. Nice people with a lot of info and knowledge. Their homepage is a gateway to an incredible amount of software - much of it free. It has your well
known favorites like SPYBOT and ADAWARE, as well as Registry cleaners,AntiVirus programs,Gamer Tweakers, ect, ect. As well as HIJACK THIS. They accept log submissions and post them so that all the techies there can make recommendations on the board. Great place. www.majorgeeks.com

Just a bump
I've checked in on this thread a few times. Just wanted to put it back up there, so others could find it.

Okay, my free trial of Zone Alarm Pro is over today. I'd like to know if it's worth buying. I like it so far.

I actually have an unopened copy of Norton firewall, but I was planning to buy Norton Internet Security and didn't want to install the firewall yet.

Guess I'll just stick with the freebie verion of Zone Alarm til then.

http://www.lavasoftsupport.com website made by the same people that made ad-aware
-if they cannot fix your computer, then no one can!!

This site has good secure settings for IE and OE
Has all the programs you need to stay safe.

http://members.accessbee.com/mitch/PhantomPhixer.html

i woudl suggest just copying and pasting the IE/OE setting and giving them their own topic and sticky it, then do the same with newbie/oldie list...

Beep. I love you all.

Was just reminded - if you have Outlook Express for email, you need to close your preview pane to prevent infected emails from automatically launching.

In OE:
Go to View>Layout and UNCHECK Preview Pane.

Happy and Safe Sweeping everybody, amy

Considered to be the best free Trojan scanning program is Swatit, found at www.swatit.org/index.html. It works with all versions of Windows.

Don't forget, that one takes a really long time to scan. When I used it, I would start the scan and go to bed so it would be done when I got up. It is very thorough. Thanks for the reminder - I had forgotten all about that one!
