I see that the extreme cold caused a brain freeze which resulted in you saying a bad word.

That craziness was from the fear of working out in that cold, but that was nothing compared to the actual doing of the work. Insanity.

It's rotten day here. Very dark and gloomy and raining. We may get 2" of rain today.

Overcast and gray here, but I don't know about rain. I don't watch the news anymore.

The rain has lessened for now, but it's still very gloomy and everything is soggy. There will probably be more rain coming.

I know it's extremely cold most places, and it's no exception here. We always go out to eat on New Year's eve. We went out extra early since it's so cold and left our house a little after 5:00. We went downtown to eat at a Mexican restaurant, which probably wasn't the best idea. The parking garage we parked in was a few blocks from the restaurant, and I thought I would freeze on the walk there. It was even colder coming out afterwards. I was so glad to get in the car and get the heat going, then to get home into the heat. I'm not going outside again tonight - that's for sure.

Tomorrow will be even colder than today. I might need to go out to the store if the bell pepper remnant in my crisper drawer is not fresh. I need some for the black eyed peas.

I've never heard of that dime tradition, but I just looked it up. You already know the tradition, but in case anyone else is seeing this thread, here is one explanation I found.

"This traditional New Year's Day dish comes from a Cajun tradition on the bayou at Cut Off. The father of the friend who shared this recipe raises dozens of head of cabbage in his backyard every year for family and friends. For additional good luck, his mother would boil a shiny new dime to make sure it was germ free, then stir it into the pot of smothered cabbage. The finder of the dime at the dinner table was sure to have even more luck in the coming year."

I'm making collard greens instead of cabbage, but I believe I'll skip the dime. I would probably choke on it - not the best way to start the new year!

Fun morning. I was supposed to go to Grand Rapids, close to a 2-hour drive, for a 10 AM doctor's appointment. My helpful brother was driving me in his four-wheel-drive truck, since the weather has been truly atrocious; snow, snow and more snow. We were in the passing lane, just overtaking some traffic, when some ***** pulled right out in front of us - I mean RIGHT in front of us. Much closer, and he would have clipped the truck. Needless to say, we wound up in the median, waiting for a tow truck. So now I get to reschedule that appointment and face the trip again. Not looking forward to it at all.

Dang, CatLover. So sorry that happened to you. At least you are okay.

I hear that we have a chance of more snow tonight. We only got a little bit last time, but it never entirely disappeared - leaving bits of ice here and there. So now there will be no way to see those bits of ice....

I'm sorry that happened to you, CatLover. It must have been very scary. I'm glad that you weren't injured. No snow here, but the coast of SC is getting snow, which is very rare for them. It's just so cold here. My bunnies went out on the screen porch for a little while, because that's where they like to be and are conditioned to be during the day, but that's the shady side of the house and it's uncomfortably cold out there to me. They seem to be okay for a while, but don't stay out there long. This winter sure is starting out horribly for so many people.

Well, not the first time I've been off the road, but I only put myself off the freeway at high speed once. It was a first for my brother, though, and really shook him up. As you say, no one hurt, not even the vehicle, so it could be a lot worse!
