Question Is this a gambling site???
When I am travelling and using public WIFI networks, I am sometimes unable to access OLS because the hosts filter out "gambling" sites. Yet I am able to access other sites that simulate casino type games! Can anything be done to make OLS seem less offensive to public networks?

Have no clue why... if it went by definition, this surely isn't a gambling site!

dfinition:
Gambling is the wagering of money or something of value

Yeah, that's what I was thinking but something about the name of the sight, or whatever, has OLS blacklisted at some venues. IMO there should be no reason why the forums and sweeps (no purchase required) listings need to be censored.

I cannot enter most of the sweeps while using the wifi at the college. I can get on OLS, but a majority of the sweeps will not open. They are considered either "gambling" or "inappropriate content". I could understand the tobacco and alcohol sweeps but not the others. I'm really picky about what I enter, and cannot understand why they are blocked. I don't carry my laptop with me to the college anymore since I only have one class on campus. I use to have a couple hours in between a couple classes and wanted to kill some time.

I think the mods do a pretty good job of keeping "inappropriate content" out of the forums. Again, it is a mystery why OLS is so often banned.

Can anyone suggest a workaround for this issue?

I have the same problem at the car dealership where I take my car for service. I used to be able to enter sweeps and didn't mind waiting a couple of hours for maintenance/repairs. Now, they claim it's a gambling site and deny access. Now, I have to watch ESPN on TV.

You might load your sweeps bookmarks onto a flash drive for portability but I still don't know how you'd access the OLS forums.

Maybe we should start listing hotspots that bar OLS. We can then choose to patronize other establishments.

There are a few reasons, one it means people will be on that instead of working. The second one is some states have strict laws about online gambling.

Contest sites are a game of luck so yes it can be considered gambling.

BTW, business have every right to block any site they want. And you can use your data if you want to get around that.

However, there are some things that a business can ask you to leave if you are doing or even call the police, like watching porn in a business or when minors are around.

And before you as, no I don't know that personally My sister works for an airline and they have to tell people to turn off the porn every day. They actually had law enforcement meet a plane because a 78 year old man was watching porn with a 13 year old boy next to him.

Sorry, I just cannot agree with your reasoning that OLS compares to porn. Yes, a business can choose what services to offer, and we consumers can choose which businesses to patronize.

Gambling win
Years ago I won $75,000 from Moneygram. When the 1099 came it listed the win as a 'gambling win', even though there was no money that changed hands on my side...all I did was send in a 3 x 5 card with my name and address. It went against my grain that they considered it 'gambling', but when i spoke with a tax attorney who happened to also be a sweeper, he told me that's the way it had to be reported on the taxes. It didn't change anything, just that it bothered ME that they were recording it as gambling.

So, there are companies/people that feel entering sweepstakes is gambling....even though you aren't paying any money out to enter.

I still do not understand why poker, slots, and other casino games are okay but OLS is not.

Technically if you are a premium member you are gambling.
As small as it may seem you are paying a fee with an expectation of winning something. That is gambling.

Heck, IMO paying taxes is gambling 'cause I don't really know what I'll get back.
