It all depends on what your needs are and how much you are willing to spend. The one I had looked at before wouldn't run the heat pump. But it could power the little heaters we use, the electric blanket etc.

Oh, watching some little deer run across the field in the snow storm.

It would automatically run itself a bit every week, no big service requirements. There would be a transfer switch one could program to turn on the generator if power was lost for how ever many minutes you decide.

There goes a deer right by the window.

We would have a secondary breaker box where we could decide what to run at what time. The two fridges would always be in the ON position, so we would never lose the food again.

Wow, the deer are either loving this or hating it. They are very active in my back yard.

Anyway, I could choose what circuits I needed, and for the most part, be unaffected by outages with lights, tv, stove etc.

All it takes is enough money to buy a fairly decent small car.

After we had the big ice storm several years ago which knocked out power for a week or more, my sister and her husband went out and bought a generator. But the next time the power went out, her husband was out of town and my sister had no idea how to work it or use it. I guess she has learned how since then.

We have another 5" on the ground from today and it's still snowing. We are trying to figure if we should go out and clear at least the part of the driveway by the house now, even though the precipitation is supposed to change to rain later. We are thinking it would be easier to clear now, than 5" of mush that freezes into ice. The bit right outside the garage door is facing north and doesn't get sun at this time of the year. When we first moved here, we blew off a little snow in that area. Had a hockey rink for a loooooooong time.

We STILL haven't had any snow this year - just some ice at the beginning of the week.
It was 60 degrees here today.

My beloved has volunteered to move the 6-8 inches of snow in the no melt zone and on the walkways.

Well, it looks pretty, Ravzie! I don't want a lot, but I would like one day of snow for the kids...
The little bit that we got last year was fun.

We had a few snowflakes fall today, but I missed it. My husband saw it when he was out jogging. I too would like a nice, soft snowfall, but we got the same ice that ANGSWIN got, and it's still on the ground in places. It's supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow morning, and I hope it's not freezing rain. We finally got above freezing today, but it was cloudy and just in the 40's.

No real complaints here - It is 62 degrees here and quite balmy.

Nothing like a good morning's snowblowing and shoveling to start the day off right. Next house I buy with have a short driveway and minimal walkways. We must have gotten about 8" of snow in total. It's really deep in the yard, on top of the last snowfall. I had to make a little cleared area in the grass for poochella to do her business because the snow is deeper than her legs are long. She doesn't like to make on the driveway or the road.

Snow has been melting, but now there will be ice over everything as the temps will plunge again.

We're getting more rain tomorrow, which means more mud.
