We were talking abut this the other day. My parents went on their first and only "all alone" vacation to FL during that week. My brother (8) stayed at our sister's house (Sis was 21) and saw the moon landing. He confirmed that he actually remembered watching it but at the time, didn't get what the big deal was about it. I was 15 and spent the week at the neighbors house. It was a foster home and although there was a TV, it was in the living room where NO ONE EVER stepped foot into! So all I ever saw was reruns of the video. I do remember watching the next moon landing when their camera didn't work.

And yes, you might wonder why I was at the neighbors house? I was on vacation from my brother!

I was away at sleep-away summer camp. There was no TV. We were told about the landing via the loud speakers at assembly line up out side after breakfast. I was 13 years old. My birthday was on July 19 and the landing was on July 20, 1969.

Been watching the tv specials. They are excellent and hope schools in the Fall offer screenings. They show so much history and how far the U.S. has come ( and hasnít) regarding womenís rights, civil rights and politics. I was 15 in 1969 and was only interested in boys

I remember watching it on tv with my family when I was 5.

I do remember this - and I can always remember the year, because it was just after I graduated from high school. What an exciting time!

this sounds strange now, but I was not interested in it at all. I was out running around doing who knows what that night. The only person in my home interested enough to stay up and watch was my Daddy. I wasn't all that impressed. It was just part of my growing up, space travel. Also possibility of nuclear war. Also politicians and political activists being assassinated. Also it was less than a month before the Manson murders. Also I had already had kids I went to school with being dead because of Vietnam.

So cool

Even Antiques Roadshow pulled up past segments concerning
little known items mostly available only around the Houston
area and Cape Canaveral.

Souvenir shops were abundant in those areas & even held public.
lectures/meetings
of many involved in NASA

Tiffnat how exciting for your Grandpa!
