Smile Blood Drive Survey at Convention
Hello, My name is Al Fitch. I'd like to conduct a survey to see how many people would be interested in donating blood in Memory of David Brown while at the convention in Moline.

I had been investigating the idea with a Local Blood bank near Moline and this is what I have come up with:

Saturday June 11th from 12Noon to 3PM it is possible to have blood donations taken. It takes 15 Minutes to register and a total of an hour of your time to donate.

I should say that I am doing this without distracting the committe led by Joe Repko in producing the convention. This was an idea I had sometime back in November or so 2004 after David died of gunshot wounds in MD. Some of you might not know David and I realize that.

At the time, I thought it would be nice to collect blood at each convention from here on out to benefit those who are in need of it.

If you think you definitely would sign up to donate please respond with a Yes. If not, then if you respond "NO" that would give me an idea of whether or not to proceed.

Although 12-6 is currently scheduled as free time, I believe there will be casino trips and riverboat dinner cruises scheduled at some point on that Saturday. Please keep this in mind when responding.

I'm new to this board and look forward to reading, learning and making new friends along the way. I usually choose to jump into something full on which is what I am doing here.

Thanks for repsponding.

Al Fitch

I'm not going to the convention but that is a wonderful, caring plan you've got there. God bless you!

I have celiac but if I am eligible i would give. Does celiac and allergies keep me from donating? Sure I am in in I am eligible.

What a wonderful idea!
I wish I could help, but I cannot donate because of health issues (blood clotting problems related to Lupus).
Al, thanks for caring enough to organize a blood drive. I hope you get enough positive responses to follow through

Thank you K.D. for the butterfly bling-bling!

Am sorry to hear that David died.
Al that is a good idea. I would caution, however, that someone would need to get from the blood center, what their rules are, about directing the donations.
I remember trying to reach the hospital where David was and trying to e-mail for information about donating. My local blood center was willing, but needed to know how to credit the donation. The hospital in Baltimore never returned either my e-mails nor telephone calls. So I gave up on that, and did not really see additional postings in the forums here.
I try, at least twice a year, and always around my b-day in January to find the time to donate. Now they have my name, and are apt to call and push for an appointment, so am a little more regular about it than previously.
Have had transfusions in 3 emergency situations in my life, and knew that somebody had cared enough to donate to help save my life.
Not every person can donate blood and so, I feel that those who can, should.

I have been absent minded in returning here
I should have returned here a few weeks ago to post a follow up. Due to lack of available participants, there will not be a blood drive set up at this year's convention in Moline.

Thank you,

Al Fitch

I am sorry to hear about this. A lot of people are still undecided if they can even go. Between social security, low wages, jobs, kids, illness, prior engagements and other reasons many people will not be able to say they will be able to go until a month before the trip. I have one friend who wants to go but will not have her schedule for June until May at the earliest.

Do not give up hope and check back in May. I would donate if I could but I never know when I will get a 3 week long cold. Have faith and thank you for remembering a fellow sweeper.

A ton of hugs to you.

Most should be able to donate locally without waiting for a special reason. Get on a regular routine and help many people.
