Got a call today from "the IRS": 509-590-2218 in "Washington"! A search shows it is from Spokane, Washington and not much else but I know it's gotta be a scam. According to the news, the IRS doesn't have time to answer its phones so why would they bother calling me?

I get so many junk calls on my landline that my answering machine now says: "Hello, I can return your call if you leave a message but all telemarketers are hereby requested to put this number on the 'do not call' list. Thank you and g'day."

I purchased a T-lock Incoming PRO Call Blocker with LCD Display and Blacklist. I'm on the Do-Not-Call List but we all know how well that works. The Call Blocker can block up to 1,500 different numbers. It surpresses the first ring and if it's a number you have added to be blocked your phone doesn't ring. Been peaceful and quiet for well over a year.

Note that the IRS will never: 1) call to demand immediate payment, nor will the agency call about taxes owed without first having mailed you a bill; 2) demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe; 3) require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card; 4) ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone; or 5) threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.

I use Call Blocker (free app) to block known scammers/spammers. You just add numbers to a black list.

Some of the callers were because the person who had my number before me stopped paying their bills.

Although if you notice NelNet calling, and you do NOT have any student loans with them, you can e-mail or direct message them on Facebook to get removed from their list as a "bad number". (They are a legit company but will call endlessly about owed student loans if somebody gave the wrong number)
