Computer issues.. MS update
MS win 10 had a recent update.. and it comes up that it can't complete. The problem is ... it tries over and over to update and keeps the computer "occupied" so nothing can be done with it!

I found an article in MS community with a link to upgrade troubleshooting.

Hoping I can get the computer to work long enough to run it..

Any suggestions on what can be done?

How do you know what # it is? The only thing he gets is when he shuts down, the computer says it's Windows 10 is updating.

Last time it came back saying it was unable to update and was removing whatever changes it made.

Since then, in the middle of doing something, the hour glass appears and stops him in his tracks.. then it eventually restarts itself and say update unsuccessful.

In the middle of everything, when the computer jams and won't do anything, he has to restart but yesterday he had to do a forced shutdown to turn off the computer.

After the last restart last night, he shut down the computer normally .. and it didn't say anything about putting in any updates, so maybe it finally got in.

This morning he started it up.. went into Open Office , the little hour glass came up .. he let it sit. and it went away shortly. That is what usually happens after an update but it does that for a few times before it finally stops.

I told him to back up his files from Open Office today and we'll see if there are any updates in that program and let them update.

The hour glass jam after updates isn't just in Open Office .. but I figure updating that won't hurt.

Right now he's so PO'd at the computer. I'm wishing we had gotten a Chrome book. Probably would do what he wants and not worry about these forced updates by MS.

My wife's laptop was hanging up too but it would say update 1709 could not install. Go to windows update and check the installed updates log to see which one is failing. I might be able to give you some help then.

Instruction on how to view the update history: https://winaero.com/blog/how-to-see-...in-windows-10/

It says we can't install some updates because others are still in progress...

Then the top of the list was this failure.. the ones I see below it said successful.

2018-04 cumulative update for windows 10 version 1709 for x64-based systems (KB4093112) (3)

I still like IE because of the toolbars. I would suggest you do a system restore back to before the first failed update and then do them one at a time. I use advanced system care from Iobit to keep things running well, and of course Crap Cleaner. I also do a reboot at least once a day.

Same one my wife's laptop crapped on! Try method #2 here, it worked for us: https://www.wintips.org/fix-windows-...tall/#method-2

Be warned this update took about 3 hours on my wife's laptop. Good luck!!

Did you do #1 first .. delete the folder or just go to #2?

I hate doing anything like that and having it cause issues later..

I did not do #1 first. As you can see in the comments on that page, it doesn’t work for everyone. Did you go check your update listing again after you did it? Did it change?

Here is the info for system restore. I would take it back to before the problems started. Either this or the link form Urlik starting at #1.

Regardless of what method you use it will take time to fix it properly.
I think of my computer as a machine that works for me and I can make it do what I want.
I still miss Fast Freddy but I learned a lot from him.
