Republican women VS Democratic women
Quote:
Here’s the kind of discourse that Republicans in state Senate District 56 are interested in: The party website is now running a video about how “hot” Republican women are compared to “Democrat [sic] women.” To the strains of Tom Jones’ “She’s a Lady,” the video runs through a series of photos of GOP women in bikinis, evening gowns and, in Sarah Palin’s case, Spandex. Then the Dems: women like Rosie O’Donnell, Janet Reno (pictured), Nancy Pelosi and Madeleine Albright — set to the song, “Who Let The Dogs Out?”

Update: I’ve emailed the two women endorsed by the SD56 Republicans, state House candidates Kathy Lohmer (56A) and Andrea Kieffer (56B). I’ll publish any comments I receive. I’ve also contacted webmaster Randy Brown for his comment (the post in question was bylined by “Randy”).

Update: Candidate Andrea Kieffer, calling the video “juvenile,” says she’s requesting the video be removed. Brown, the site’s webmaster, says he published the video. Why? “[i]ts only intention was to bring a smile to a few peoples faces, and possibly irritate a few others. Is it fair? Does that matter? It wasn’t intended to be fair. It was intended to be funny.”

A local Minnesota Republican Party operative yesterday waded into one of the signature political issues of our time: "Who's hotter — Republican women or Democratic women?"

The Senate District 56 GOP Party posted a Web video yesterday laying out its position on the hotness question. It leads with images of prominent Republicans such as Sarah Palin, Michelle Malkin, and Michele Bachmann; the soundtrack, naturally, is the Tom Jones chestnut, "She's a Lady."

Then, there's an abrupt switch to the other side of the aisle. The theme is subtly conveyed with the strains of the Baha Men hit "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Photos of Michelle Obama, Janet Reno, Rosie O'Donnell and Hillary Clinton flash on the screen.

The video quickly made its viral way through the blogosphere, and provoked strong reaction from state politicos and others. State Democratic chairman Brian Melendez called the video "sexist and offensive."

"The day when a woman was judged by her looks rather than her competence and intelligence should have passed three generations ago," Melendez said in a statement Tuesday. "But apparently Republican leaders in the year 2010 still think of that bygone era as the good old days, and want to bring it back." Melendez called for the video's removal and an apology from branch GOP chairman Joe Salmon.

Local Republican state House candidate Andrea Kieffer also requested that the video be removed, Paul Schmelzer reports for the Minnesota Independent. Kieffer called the video a "juvenile attempt at 'marketing.' "

"This is not something I would condone, and I am sending a request that the webmaster take it down immediately," she wrote in communication with the Independent.

As of Wednesday morning, the party had removed the video from its website.

Still, Salmon took a parting shot at what he seems to view as the humorless enforcers of political correctness. "It [is] really unfortunate to relearn that the other side is severely lacking a sense of humor," Salmon tweeted Tuesday.

I've been forwarded comparison pictures for years re: who has the "hotter" women.

First, beautiful or ugly - it is in the eye of the beholder.

I would take a smart, educated Quasimodo over vitriolic "beauty" Ann Coulter any single day of the week.

Republican women have gotten by only on their looks whereas Democrat women are smarter.

Their popularity will dwindle as their looks do.

How superficial . If I was a woman Republican, I would be insulted to know I am important only because of my looks. I feel very sorry for any Republican woman that is associated with Brown. I also feel sorry for his wife and daughters since he has a complex about women not being intelligent and views them only as sex objects. I bet he is a perv too. I really hate sexist men like that. Gross! He is probably like the man in the rehab center that my daughter works out. A nurse there, requested and got reassigned because he repeatedly made derogatory sexual comments to her. I bet Brown would be an awful pig of a patient to take care of.

And who says Madeline Albright is ugly? She has a beautiful voice and dresses wonderfully. Plus I think she kind of has a cute mouth.

What a way to alienate the women in your party. Salmon and Brown should be ashamed of themselves and I bet they are gross , womanizing men . Pigs.

So what if the Republican women are "hot"? I know many men that would take an intelligent woman over a "hot" one any day. Looks don't let you carry on an intelligent conversation. Case in point: Sarah Palin.

I watched the video.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I counted only one republican woman who is currently serving in government: Michelle Bachmann.

Sarah Palin quit, and Condi Rice is in the private sector.

The rest of the GOP female roster seemed to consist of glamour shots and soft-core porn, along with Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin.

The democratic women seemed to consist of women who hold, or have held, very senior positions in government. And a bunch of photoshopped pictures o Rosie O'donnel.

I guess that indicates how the video makers view the role of women in politics....

The 'video' has now been removed from that particular GOP website:

Honestly I would much rather look like Rosie than Ann Coulter on any day of the week.. I never understood why so many seem to find her/Ann attractive.. She makes my skin crawl..
