Scam Phone Calls Blacklist

Do you get scam phone calls on your cell phone? I do not answer unidentified calls from out of my area code because I never use my cell phone for sweeping so they cannot be win notifications. A quick search on the internet confirms that others have also flagged them as scams.
Here is my list of recently received calls, maybe you'd like to add to it:

Mine are all similar to yours, but different variations. I never answer these ones, and they call all the time! I wish they would get the hint!!

I also enjoy reporting them to the FTC because I am on the National "DO NOT CALL" list
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/cons...ts/alt136.shtm
but am not confident much is being done about it.

I was watching Homeland (a Showtime drama about the CIA vs. terrorism) and they were in this big war room waiting to trace a phone call from a terrorist. When the call began the technician was saying something to the effect that 'this is really sophisticated, the call is being sent across routers on several continents, these guys know what they're doing..." When they finally determined it wasn't the terrorist calling....it turned out to be an automated carpet cleaning call, lol.

While noting, saving, blocking and reporting numbers can feel like at least you're doing something...it's a losing battle. When you google a number you *can* sometimes learn about a specific renegade outfit ignoring do-not call lists and know not to call back. But often enough "Heather from Account Services" calls everyday from a different number.

And the mind blower to me was when I learned how often these scumbags can spoof caller id. A few years ago I got several automated calls from a local number promoting some mortgage business. I was a Realtor at the time and resented the slimey marketing practice (and the lack of mandatory disclosures in the recorded message) so I did some sleuthing. I was able to track the number to an individual (it was unlisted) who lived nearby. I called and it was an elderly woman who lived alone (who it turns out I actually knew) and she had never called me, never been involved with any such business...and lived alone. The perpetrator had been electronically disguising their actual number with hers. They know that many people won't answer unknown or out of state calls, and are far less likely to consider a "carpet cleaner" from Canada...so they choose a local area code and prefix to get better stats. Not that they're using Google Phone, but you can choose any area code you want when you set up a number with them.

Of course the reason this topic is in this forum is that many big wins come from phone calls, and that many big win calls will show in Caller ID as Private, Unknown or simply a long distant number we don't recognize. And we don't want to miss those!

The general tip here for sweepers ( or anyone experiencing spam) is don't call them back, don't choose "option 7 to be removed from our call list" because you simply perpetuate your victimhood. Responsible entities don't do spam calling, and the renegade outfits who do are going to politely honor your request. They certainly *are* going to add responders' numbers to lists that have "been verified as live and attended" for use by other miscreants.

I get so many weird calls all day long and I don't have caller id I just answer them. I constantly as to be removed from the list and they say o.k. but call back anyway. NRA has been calling for my husband for a year and a half! I got stern today and asked to be removed again...we shall see.

The scammers and they are obvious...I just say no thanks and hang up!

Get yourself a Google Voice number (it's free). Set your Google Voice number to forward calls to your cell and/or your house phone. Use only your Google Voice number when entering sweeps. Now you don't have to worry about missing a sweep win call AND if you get telemarketing/scam calls on that number you can block it from ever calling you again.
