I was on Remicade for Rheumatoid Arthritis for several months and was doing fine. I had a severe reaction to it twice and the doctor pulled me off of it. I was then put on a drug called Keneret. I am doing fine once again. The problem and reason for this is because the doctors chanced upon something in my lower right lung (a 1" mass). They thought it was stage one cancer so in the hospital I went for surgery. When I came to I found out that it actually was a fungi infection. Upon talking to my Rheumatologist she said, "This is probably from the Remicade. There have been several reports of it causing fungus infections."

My daughter has a freind that has a sister taking Remicade. She has since contacted her doctor about this and the doctor decided that it would be best to test her for fungus infections.

Not trying to scare anyone. Just want people to be alert to what is possible. I have spent several weeks recovering from the surgery and looks like I will have several more. Plus I will now be taking a drug for the fungus infection for about 6 months.

I am not using this medication. I did notice that even in the TV commercial they say "should not be used by a person with an infection, or person who is prone to infection. If you develop an infection while taking this medication contact your doctor as this may indicate a serious side effect." That alone is enough to scare me.

I hope you are able to recover from this infection problem. I hate it when doctors and pharmacists do not tell you about the medications you get. All of this should have been explained to you before you ever had one dose of this stuff. I strongly doubt that it would provide enough relief from the arthritis to justify the high risk of getting so sick. I am sorry you were in the group of people who were adversely affected. :worry:
