I am so ticked off. I was so psyched about the ipod win and I get this email today. I already sent out my affidavit(they emailed it). Here's the email. Lycos Gamesville stinks!

We would like to take this moment to apologize for the email you
received from nobody@gamesville.lycos.com on December 28, 2003
titled 'You won the iPod sweepstakes!'. This email incorrectly
identified you as the winner of the iPod in our weekly GV Rewards
sweepstakes. Unfortunately, you are NOT a weekly winner at this time.

We could bore you with the technical reasons for why the sweepstakes
was not capable of running as planned. Instead, please rest assured
that the issue has been resolved and that the correct winner has been
determined and notified.

To apologize for this technical error, we are going to deposit 10,000
bonus GV Rewards into your Gamesville account. Once these GV Rewards
have been deposited into your account, they are yours to keep or
redeem. These bonus GV Rewards will be deposited in your account by
January 15, 2004.

As always, we very much appreciate your patronage ... and your
feedback. Feel free to contact help@gamesville.com any time if you have
questions or issues about GV Rewards or anything.

That really stinks. Once they notify you as a winner, they should have to give you the prize. I would complain to the top people in the company and tell them how you feel. They most likely don't even know about the contest and they might like to keep their corporate image looking good by making good on the promised prize.

I would DEMAND an explaination and tell them that you wouldn't be bored at all hearing why this happened. How condencending of them. :(

Gosh, that is down right wrong! I don't think they should be able to get away with that. I agree that you should demand further info and make your way to the top brass about it. Hoping you win something really great in the very near future to make up for this disappointment. :gvibes:

That is terrible! They could have given you the ipod anyway :mad2: You know they could afford it. Maybe you should make a little noise and rattle some cages to see what else they will do :worry:

I would write back and let them know that explanation was totally unacceptable and as Current said DEMAND a full explanation.

update..latest email from gamesville. I'm still not happy.

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding the issue with the first GV
Rewards iPod sweepstakes. Please accept our apologies for the delay in
getting back to you. We believe that every inquiry we receive deserves
a response, and have been working very hard to answer every inquiry in
the order in which it was received.

We, too, are unhappy about the error that occured in the GV Rewards
system. Unfortunately, the code that generated the automated email to
the winner was written incorrectly and as such, you incorrectly received
the winning email. This was the first time in seven years where we have
had a problem like this, and it took everyone by surprise -- including
us. As soon as it became apparent that the automated system was not
functioning properly, we immediately emailed the second message to
everyone affected to explain the situation and set things right.

Again, please accept our sincerest apologies for the mistake. We
understand that this kind of error is unacceptable and we have put in a
number of significant improvements to the GV Rewards system to make sure
this does not happen again. In 2004, we look forward to many new games
and new prizes. We hope you will continue to play on Gamesville!
