I have a few Mason type jars that were candles but I have burned them completely down.. there's a tiny bit of the wick left and just a bit of candle wax left in the bottom that I want to get out so I can save the jars.

How can I get this out without ruining the jar, ruining something else, etc? I've thought of a couple of ways of heating up the wax to dispose of it but am not sure what the "proper" way is so I don't ruin anything or burn myself ('cause that's bound to happen with how many times I've burned myself in the past month).

Thanks. ;)

I usually place the jars in hot water and let it heat up, the wax should slip right out. Then you can put the jars into the dishwasher or wash really well and they should be okay.

Easiest and least messy, actually, not messy at all...... Put the jars in the freezer overnight. The next day the wax will just pop right out. Trust me this works. I have about 50 candle jars/holders all over the house that I have had for years. Never ruined one of them with the freezer method.

If you get wax on something (like carpet, clothing, counters, etc) put an ice cube on it for a bit and it will come off pretty easily too.

Allie, just run some cold water in the jars, let sit for a few minutes, maybe pry a little with a butter knife & it should pop right out. Clean with hot soapy water.

I put the candle jar in a few inches of water in a pan and heat on the stove till the wax melts it melts fast. Careful, the jar is HOT. Dump the melted wax into something to throw away. Wipe out jar with paper napkins while still pretty warm. Use caution not to burn yourself with the hot glass. If it is tall and narrow I use a table knife to move the napkin around to wipe out any residue. I often remake candles in smaller jars by pouring the melted wax around a votive placed in the new smaller jar. Make sure the new jar is pre warmed or it could break from the hot wax.

That's what I do. :)
