Quick - WHERE in Mexico should I go?

I got the papers for my Mexico trip win today and I get to choose a destination. I need to call them tomorrow in hopes that I can take the trip in January/early February, otherwise I might not be able to go at all! Lots of blackout dates (including most of February and all of March and April), plus personal stuff here that makes traveling after that not very feasible, and the certificate is only good until the end of May. It says accommodations require 60 days advance booking, so I'm hoping like heck they don't hold me to that!

Anyway, I get to choose between Acapulco, Cancun, Mazatlan, Ixtapa, Cabo, or Puerto Vallarta. Please, help me choose! Have you been to any of those places and liked them, or not liked them? Ixtapa is probably out unless we can stay in neighboring Zihuatanejo.

Oh, and I should add that I'd like somewhere pretty laid-back - I'm not into partying. I'd also like to avoid getting swarmed by trinket vendors and timeshare salesmen.

Cabo looks really pretty and like a nice relaxing place when I watched a show on the Travel Channel about it. Go there and have a great time you lucky ducky!!!

Can you fly into Cancun and then take the ferry over to Isla Mujeres? That would be my vote! :gvibes:

The only place I've been to is Cancun, and it was wonderful. The sand is like powder, the beaches are gorgeous. It can be a partying scene, but it doesn't have to be. The strip right by the ocean is lined with hotels and they each have their own activities. We stayed at the Omni, and hope to go back in a few years. As you go further down the strip, you come across a lot of bars, but they are on the other side of the lagoon, which separates the hotels from the mainland.

I go there twice a year. I prefer Puerto Vallarta -has the best prices & it is a charming city.

Went to Nuevo Vallarta/Puerto Vallarta March of this year. Personally didn't care for Puerto Vallarta, would not return.

If you want blue water.....go to Cancun
