OH MY GOSH!! My first big one!!!

Boy have I had a great week!! Lots of goodies have come in the mail! Then last night, getting ready to head out the door and UPS brings 2 deliveries, one box of goodies from the THYMES sweeps and an envelope saying that I am the GRAND prize winner in this sweeps, the trip to Hawaii!!!! I am freaking out! Meanwhile my 11 year old son, who was thrilled, was complaining that we were going to be late for his basketball game!! I have to figure this one out, I am DEATHLY afraid of flying, esp. a long, over the water flight like this!! ACH!! It's a no-brainer for husband and kids! I wasn't even really trying for this prize, I wanted the camcorder! But, I think I will just take lots of Valium and do it!! :cheer7:

I love the 3 V's theory! I actually might have to take something even stronger! I'm so pathetic, that if it weren't for my kids being sooo excited about this, I don't know if I could go. MAJOR claustrophobic thing. Well now the more I'm looking into this and have checked the hotel online, I AM getting SOOO excited about it. This is a trip that we NEVER would be taking without this win, so off we go! At least I have 7 months to "gear up" for it, and "test" out all the meds that will put me in la-la land! Actually, on a more serious note, if you're really afraid of flying I've got what I think is the best book EVER on the subject - Flying Without Fear by Duane Brown.

For years I was quite possibly one of the worst flyers ever. I was so bad my husband wouldn't even sit next to me on the plane when we flew! :laugh:

Anyway, my sister bought me this book and it truly changed my life! Not only does it go into the whole physiology (sp?) of fear, (including the fact that vodka OR valium might actually make your feelings of fear worse!) it takes you step by step through every noise the plane makes throughout the entire flight. Each time one of those little bells goes "ding" you'll know exactly why! It's also got silly little exercises, that really work, to help relieve your anxiety.

I really can't recommend this book enough. I've given it to some other fearful flyers as well and they agreed - BEST BOOK EVER! :jet: :cheer7: :jet:

Gabyzee, thanks soo much! My sister, who is in the hospital, was talking to one of the doctors about this and I think that is the book he strongly recommended that I read. She wasn't sure of the exact name or author, but it sounded like the one you mentioned. I am getting it today!! I have such severe fear, even though the trip is 7 months away, I'm already freaking out!! My family has always been irritated with my fear, because it has kept us from doing some great things! It has been a BIG problem. Sooo, here I go and I will work hard to make this work! Thanks so much! :) :jet:

Well, we considered this after receiving the affy. The trips ARV is $15,000, but have heard that we can probably get that down if we can prove that we could have made the trip for less. So have to do searches for flight prices, prices for the hotel, car etc. I guess we are supposed to add the amount to our total income. We figure that we would never be able to take a trip like this with just the amount we would pay in taxes. I did ask if there was a cash substitution, but they said no. I had 10 days to either accept or decline so just made a quick decision and decided to do it. Technically I can still turn it down if I do it well before the trip (we decided to go in July). So I still really have a few months to change my mind, but don't think I will, my kids would murder me!

Oh, and it also includes $2,800 cash, so hopefully we wouldn't go crazy with the spending and put some away.
