I am cooking dinner and our electric stove shorted out and started smoking as I was cooking. The fire alarm went off and when they called to see what the problem was, they ask for a password and they had it wrong. We always have the same password but they misspelled it and wouldn't accept it. SO they almost called the police on me until I finally yelled at them and said why the hell would the fire alarm go off if I wasn't supposed to be here and how do I know the name of the residents and the phone number and etc. etc.
Anyway I reset the alarm and told them not to send anyone because it was a short and no emergency was going on. It was just really smoky but there was absolutely NO FIRE. Minutes later the fire dept. shows up. I am in my jammies (which consists of a XXXL t-shirt that is almost to my calf with bleach stains and flannel pants that DO NOT match), my hair wet and I am looking like hell. SO they come in examine the stove only to tell me "you might need a new one." DUH! Luckily they turned off the breaker so at least it won't blow up.
In the meantime, B/F is not home and he missed all the action. I know all the neighbors are probably chomping at the bit to find out what is going on. I was a little embarrased but the fire people were really nice. Although they were a little ticked at the alarm company for not telling them it was not an emergency. Luckily, they didn't come blaring into the neighborhood with the siren on.
So I am having one exciting night. tee hee
