But.....
I am still amazed by the amount of people that enter sweeps with the hope of replacing or supplementing their income. I mean, Come On BE REALISTIC!!!
Everyone who enters a sweep hopes to win and everyone would love to win a car, a tv, a camera, or a trip (not to mention CASH);there's no denying that!
And I know that everyone can post their disappointments and find people to commiserate wth them but when I see people that have been entering for only a few months and they moan and complain that they can't win (or haven't won) I wonder if they have realistic expectations.
Let's face it,the odds of winning any prize at all are pretty daunting and yet people moan and complain when they don't win or complain that someone won that has been sweeping a similiar amount of time.
I'm not saying that anyone should not post their opinion (after all that's what I'm doing here)
but I just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in because I feel that anyone that hopes to make a living from sweeping is delusional.
I hope that everyone wins a big prize!!!
Merry Christmas and Happy Sweeping!

Yeah, but it's has been a good small supplemental income at times. I'm a non employed person so whatever I bring into the household is supplemental. :D Cheers and happy winning! :gvibes:

Yes but do you count on this to make ends meet?
I'm thankful for all of my wins (and hopefully future wins)but I'm not counting on anything.

I love sweeping! My theory is.. you will not win, unless you enter. I enter sweeps knowing many will enter and few will win... Some one has to win & I hope it will be me. :cheer7:

No of course not. I think most people just feel frustrated when so much time and effort is put forth and then they are not winning. It's understandable. Winnng is so euphoric that some of you forget that it does help some people to get by for Christmas, or that $200 check helped to buy bedspreads for their kiddos, etc... So it feels wrong to play and play, work and work at it and then it yields little or no wins, of course you will hear sound outs on this. Of course. I don't think anyone depend on it but it is a resource that we see others actually benefiting from so many times from this board. And then you are feeling your carpal tunnel start up and you have exerted time, money, and effort into it and have not won a substantial prize such as you see others win, I guess I'm saying that is most people don't rely upon it but it is so hoped for and worked for and played for that it feels wrong not to have wins at times. It may be that you are assuming they are depending on it. You cannot deny that the more you work at it the better you win, therefore you depend on your entering to pay off.. eh? I don't think anyone has specifically said that they do it to "make ends meet". ;) :gvibes:

Personally, I sweep for fun only. It would be great if I could win a really big cash win, or a really big other win that I could sell on E-bay or something, but I don't count on that, as a matter of fact, I never even think about those kind of things.
Hel, I'm happy with the free mag subscriptions, freebees and samples I get from this place.
I don't get discouraged.....my time WILL come, but only the Goddess knows when.
I am having fun here, have been for over a year now......and that is all that I rely on. That's enough for me. It feels good, so I do it.

Heehee........
I AM a Goddess (Well...sort of).
And don't ever stop doing the "feels good so I do it" part. It's what makes life so interesting! I know this from personal experience. You don't always need arms.....sometimes just fingers will do.
((((((((((((((Claps my hands over my mouth))))))))))))))))) I DID NOT just say that!!!!! I swear.

Most people don't expect to earn or even supplement a living with a hobby. Hobbies cost money. If I considered the time that I spend entering, the ISP charges, RoboForm and all the other assorted costs, I would be losing money.

I always hope for a win---I don't expect one! Heck if I did, I would be disappointed all too often! I think of this as a fun hobby and if I win--great! If not, at least I enjoy the people at this site, and I have learned about a lot of different products and companies that I woulnd't have without contests!

I feel exactly the same way Current does. I started sweeping shortly after retiring, just stumbled across this hobby by accident and never expected it to be my second career, but it is oh so fun!!
I never won anything major, but have had some fun and useful wins, and those little surprizes that show up now and again can really but zing into a day, and they make nice gifts for people now that my income is limited and I can't really afford to do much shopping.
I guess I really am turning in to my mother, by insisiting to my adult son that the Sinbad hat looks great on him.

I spend quite a bit of time "playing" on here so I would have to say that sweeping is just a fun hobby for me! No great expectations, just great fun!

John - I think you make a very valid point and many members will agree with you! ;)
And of course, I do agree with you. I do NOT expect wins.. sure I'm a bit let down when I go however many weeks with not a darn win in sight.. But I do not get dependent on wins, this is a hobby, not a job. If I was dependent for income, then I'd get a job (if possible with this economy..). But I do enjoy the wins I can give as presents, saves me money and sometimes I win something I would not be able to afford or choose to afford (that goes for wins that I keep for myself as well).
Anyway that's my feeling on it, basically the same as most people here I'd think. But good thread, it's a nice reminder for those that get a bit irritated and flustered (like myself occasionally). ;)

I sweep because I only sleep three hours a day. I would get bored if I didn't have something to do. I would go crazy.
You are right, John. This can't be done as extra income. The chances are often to low. I do it for fun and here at OS, there are wonderful people to talk to. People don't have realistic expectations sometimes.
I myself have been on a winning streak lately and my mother wants to try sweeping as well. I had to reminded her that it is not as easy as it seems to win these things, as there are thousands of people out there who are doing the same thing we are.

Well, I think the original post you are referring to was titled, "Loser's Club" or something similar to that. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Sometimes you feel like the only one who isn't winning, and it's nice to be able to find people who are in similar circumstances. Frankly, if people want to have a "Loser's Club" or "Winner's Club" or whatever, I think that's okay. Just don't participate in that forum if it doesn't fit your circumstances. I, for one, never expected to make this my "second income" by any means! Heck, I'd be thrilled with a $14.98 CD. Just doing this as a hobby anyway, but it does get discouraging sometimes, and that's only human. If we weren't hoping to win, none of us would be here. :twocents:

I don't "assume" I'm going to win, but I do it because it would be nice. I know the odds are generally very high.
I liken unrealistic expectations in sweeping to all of the high school boys who think they are going to be NBA, NFL, NHL players etc. I've seen polls done, and there are many kids who think they can make it to the big leagues. It really is sad.
I live very modestly, so don't need $/prizes to get by. I generally also only enter sweeps sponsored by companies I've heard of, and generally for either 1)Cash; 2)Home electronics; or 3)Cash alternatives to prizes offered.

Ok, here's my opinion. If you win, fine. What I do is treat this like a hobby that does not require money to be paid out in any form other than taxes if I'm lucky enough to win a big prize. My grandkids live with me and we look forward to the UPS man and anything we get in the mail from the postman. I enter my hubby, grandkids, myself and one sister in a lot of sweeps. No, we don't make a lot of money from sweeping (but I believe I'll win the BIG ONE one day), but it's FREE! My biggest win is a trip to Vegas that I took in October and we had the best time because we had never been to Vegas. I think that if you treat sweeping like a hobby you probably won't get too frustrated when you don't win something in say, several weeks or months. I know there have been times when I just didn't want to do it, but I think, if I don't enter someone else will enter and they will possibly win. If they win, could I have won if I had only entered that day? So, what I do is set aside one and a half hours each morning before the kids get up - I'm talking 5:00 a.m. - and I enter sweeps. I love this site and it is the most organized one I have seen. I used to do EZSWEEPS, but when I found this one it was bye-bye to them.
GOOD LUCK TO ME AND MY FELLOW SWEEPERS!

Since I am stuck at home being disabled, sweeping is a way out for me. It's meeting new friends with the same interests without the hassles. I never expected any big wins from sweeping and was only getting small ones, but then came Fed Ex...love that lady...with the win from KIA. I would never complain again about wasting my time on the puter with sweeps.
