The neighbor kid, oh about 13 yrs old had one, I dont know what kind, but the horn drove me up the wall lol.
Anyway, he just mainly rode it around the neighborhood on paved streets, and kept getting flat tires, and the chain kept comming off.... He had it about 2 months or so, and it broke.
He didnt seem very rough with it .. I dont know, I think a go cart or something of that sort is probably better... something gas powered.

Just today I overheard a sales lady talking about them. She said it recommended that children wear helmets when riding it because they can go about 9 miles per hour and kids are getting hurting on them. My son wants one to. I am against electric scooters and power wheels because in my personal opinion kids don't get enough excercise how it is.

Tomorrow my 9 year old goes to the orthapedic to see if he has a fractured knee! This just happend over the holiday weekend. We are hoping it's not broken or that he has any torn ligaments or tendons. If your child does get a scooter I would make sure he has knee and elbow pads as well as a helmet. :worry:

Both my kids won these scooter, about a week after they recieved them i got a call from razor scooter, they said they wanted to send a better moter and asked if i can return the other one. they paid for it to be shipped back, then i started to wonder why would they just want to give me a better moter. well i thing i know why. about two weeks ago i was reading in the paper where this persons house caught on fire, they said that the kis left the scooter in the garage over night to recharge and it over heated and set the house on fire. well anyways to this date my kids have never used the motor they just ride the scooter with out it.

A few kids in my neighborhood have them, and my kids ride them all the time. You need to take the same precautions you would with a regular scooter (wear a helmet!). Just like bikes and regular scooters, kids can get the usual bumps and bruises. Enjoy!!!

my dd is 13 and has one of the electric ones that you sit on and ride. my dad and mom got it for her (my dad says that the same one is now available at target.) we make her wear a helmet, it has turn signals and a horn. we made sure that she is aware that she has to follow the rules of the road, same as if she was riding a bike. it is very quiet and she just plugs it in to recharge. i believe it can go up to 22 mph, but she has never tried to get it up that fast(she's a little bit chicken like her mama!) it also has the locking box on the back so she can carry stuff. it has made it nice for ME, because i can send her to the store on sunday mornings for the sunday paper!

I think these electric and gas scooters are too dangerous for most young kids. I've seen kids here and in Hawaii dashing in and around traffic without paying any attention at all. They just don't have the sense at these young ages to be riding motorized vehicles. Bad enough just with bicycles. And I agree that kids should be getting exercise too. JMHO.
