So I have decided to get a Home Entertainment System this Friday, and I need some help.

I do a lot of research before I buy my products, so I need some sites that can provide me with reviews for speakers, receivers, tvs, dvd's and etc.

I used cnet.com and epinions.com, but I need some other ones.

Also, can you guys check out some of my decisions.

For a TV, I am going with SONY, so that is 100 percent.
For the DVD player, I am going with Samsung DVI model one.
For speakers I am not quiet sure. I found nice JBL ones, but I also like KLIPSCH ones. Which brand is better? And what other brands make great speakers.

The main problem, I am really having is deciding which receiver to get. I have found a kenwood one, that is THX certified, and is 450 dollars. There is also this YAMAHA one, that isn't THX certified and is 400 dollars.

Yamaha:

Kenwood: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1051826210196&skuId=5391462&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03031

Which is better? Which company is more reliable? It really seems to me like the Kenwood is offering to much for too little. I am leaning towards YAMAHA just because everyone recommends them, but I would like to hear other people's opinions.

So if you guys can help with my sound system decisions, I will be very happy. Please just tell me what THX Certified means, recommend best receiver brand and model, and best speakers. Thanks.

I bought my first Kenwood receiver 10 years from Circuit City and have never been happier. I upgrade every 2-3 years depending on technology, and have never had a problem with any of them. I handed down my last one to my daughter. It's 5 years old and still sounds great. My speakers are DCM. They are a hard brand to find, in fact, I've never seen them anywhere but CC. I love my system, it rocks!

Good luck finding an awesome home theatre! :cool2:

While I don't have a suggestion, I have a question of my own to add, if you don't mind! :) Where can I find some good info on buying a home theatre system-I have no idea what to look for! And is it better to buy a home theatre system as a package as I've seen them or better to buy each component seperately? Also, what is an average price to spend if buying seperately rather than as a package?

TIA!
Cathy

I know this wasn't one of the choices on your list of receivers, but I LOVE my Onkyo receiver. I had never heard of that brand before, but it was worth every penny. We have a lot of different components to our system, and our friend who is an electronics hound went with us to get our speakers and receiver. I kind of scoffed at getting a center channel in addition to the other speakers, but it is totally necessary. We went with Infinity speakers, the Onkyo receiver, and a Velodyne subwoofer. The Onkyo receiver allows us to run our DVD on a supervideo cable, plus we have a VCR, satellite dish, cd player and cable. Our previous receiver was a Kenwood, and we really liked it a lot.
