Sorry to stick my nose in here, but if you all didn't read my post a week or so ago, I wanted to give you a recap...
I visited Tennessee to see my football team play in their Division's final (I-AA college). I couldn't believe how nice the people were in your state. I especially liked visiting Dotson's in Franklin. They were very sweet, and had the best biscuits known to man.
Keep up the friendliness!

So happy to hear that you liked Franklin (and Dotson's....yum!!). Next time, you need to come visit Leiper's Fork (blink and you've driven through it, but a fun place to visit when they have town activities going on). I've always lived in Tennessee, but I truly love the people here and it makes me really happy to hear that others think we're kind of nice!! Thank you udalum!!

Jarnocan, that's neat you're coming this way. I think housing probably is a little less expensive here than NJ, but it really depends where you live just like everywhere. So many areas of middle, TN the houses are HUGE!!! and very, very expensive!!! Lots of celebs in Nashville, Brentwood, Franklin....lots of money in the area. (In my dreams I'll live like that some day!!)
Zhak, yeah for Murfreesboro. About 1 1/2 hours from where I live.
It looks like we're getting a pretty good group here in middle, TN so we should plan a get together in the near future!

Allycat,
That sounds like a great idea. :cool2: I'm sure there a few places we could all get together and have a blast. The Wildhorse saloon and Jillian's are a couple places that come to mind where we could meet and get to know each other and most importantly have some fun.
Being still rather new to the Nashville area, there aren't too many places I am familular with, but I hope that anyone here interested in a get together could post ideas. I would like to hear about what everyone like and hopefully we can put something together where everyone can have a blast. I think next year, the Nashville Sound will be in their new stadium downtown. From the looks of their proposed drawings, it looks like that would be a great place to get together. A tailgate party for a Titans home game would be another idea. I'm looking forward to hearing some of your ideas.

September 17th, 2004, 11:29am
skipemt, I love your ideas. I'm open to meeting anywhere and you really did list some great choices. We also tailgate at the Titans games and will be doing so for the Indy game on Sunday. GO TITANS! I really feel we can all come up with a great get together with all Mid TN members whenever it works for everyone!! :supstar:

Thanks Ally,
I would like input from others that post here. especially whether Saturday or Sunday is better for a gettogether. There is a great park here in Hendersonville on Old hickory lake. it is easy access from the Vietnam Veterans highway at exit 3. A nice picnic area, and for those of you with kids, there is plenty of room for them to have a lot of fun too.
The Wildhorse would be another great place, but after thinking about it and that we would probably getting together during the weekend, it could tend to get extreemly crowded, especialy if the Tiatans are playing at home and also TSU plays at the Colusium.
Opry Mills Mall is pretty easily accessable from almost everywhere and there is jillian's and the Alabama Grill. Although I have a blast at the NASCAR Silcom Motor Speedway, race simulator.
I would like to hear from as many people as we can, as to what day is good.
Then when we know how many will be able to come and a day we can pick a location where everyone will have a good time and get to meet others here in Middle Tennessee.
I am looking forward to hearing from everyone soon.

Thanks redwriter, That sounds like a pretty good location.
Now we need to see about picking an date.
Personaly, I think a type of pot luck kind of picnic would be pretty good.
Each person bring something, like potato salad, another bring hot dogs, another burgers, and so on.
Once we pick a date and know who is going to come, we can work out what everyone can bring.
Just think, This could be a lot of fun, meeting new friends and enjoying the park.

Middle TN. Born in Nashville in 1958, moved to Hendersoville for a few years, then back to East Nashville, then South Nashville, Smyrna and back to Nashville again! Got married, moved and lived in Franklin for 10 years and am now settled in College Grove, TN. We used to eat at Dotson's in franklin at least once a week. Got this joke in my email today and knew y'all would appreciate it!
Subject: Things I've learned about Tennessee and being a Tennessean....
1. Possums sleep in the middle of the road with their feet in the air.
2. There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 live in Tennessee.
3. There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 live in Tennessee plus a couple no one's seen before.
4. Squirrels will eat anything.
5. Unknown critters love to dig holes under tomato plants.
6. Raccoons will test your crop of melons and let you know when they are ripe.
7. If it grows, it sticks; if it crawls, it bites.
8. Onced and twiced are words.
9. It is not a shopping cart; it is a buggy.
10. Fire ants consider your flesh as a picnic.
11. People actually grow and eat okra.
12. Fixinto is one word.
13. There is no such thing as "lunch". There is only dinner and then there is supper.
14. Ice tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar!
15. Backards and forwards means "I know everything about you."
16. Jeet? is actually a phrase meaning "Did you eat?"
17. You don't have to wear a watch because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you' re done or it's too dark to see.
More about Tennesseans....
You know you're from Tennessee if:
1. You measure distance in minutes.
2. You've ever had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" in the same day.
3. You use "fix" as a verb. Example: "I'm fixing to go to the store "
4. All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect or animal.
5. You install security lights on your house and garage and leave both unlocked.
6. You know what a "VOL" is.
7. You carry jumper cables in your car...for your OWN car.
8. You know what "cow tipping" is.
9. You only own four spices: salt, pepper, Tabasco and catsup.
10. The local papers cover national and international news on one page but require 6 pages for local gossip and sports.
11. You think that the first day of deer season is a national holiday.
12. You find 100 degrees Fahrenheit "a little warm".
13. You know all four seasons: Almost Summer, Summer, still Summer and Christmas.
14. You know whether another Tennessean is from east, west or middle Tennessee as soon as they open their mouth.
15. Going to Wal-mart is a favorite past time known as "goin' Wal-martin" or off to "Wally World".
16. You describe the first cool snap (below 70 degrees) as good pinto-bean weather.
17. A carbonated soft drink isn't a soda, cola or pop...it's a Coke, regardless of brand or flavor. Example: "What kinda coke you want?"
18. Fried catfish is the other white meat.
19. You understand these jokes and forward them to your friends from Tennessee (and those who just wish they were).
Not EVERYONE can be a Tennessean, it's an art form and a gift from God!

My family and I may be moving from Charlotte NC to Tennessee. We are currently looking at the Knoxville area. I have a 7 yr old son, so quality of education is paramount. My wife is also a scenic artist for the Theatre, and is currently doing design work for the Charlotte Children's Theatre.
Trying to find an area where you can get a reasonbly nice home with a little property, (1/2 acre of mor) for the low 100's.
Can anyone offer any suggestions regarding Tennessee. I work from my home office, so I am very flexible, so the education, theatre, etc will take priority.
Are there any good websites to get more info regarding taxes, etc about TN?
Thanks for any help you can give. :)

I lived in East TN all my life - grew up in Oak Ridge, which is 15 min. from Knoxville and they have #1 school systems. Moved to West Knoxville and it is a really nice area, specifically Farragut, TN and they have high ranked schools but the houses may be a bit more expensive. There are several other areas within Knoxville and I believe a lot of the schools are good as well. I would live in West Knoxville versus other parts of Knoxville if you can. I hope this helps a little. East Tennessee is BEAUTIFUL!! I miss it but I've grown to LOVE middle, TN too!

Clarksville is only 45 miles north of Nashville and doesn't have the property rates that Nashville has. The southside and sango areas have median priced houses starting at 120,000 or so and the Schools are good schools. Many of us are military so it is a very diverse culture here and a good place to raise children as our crime rate is low. Honestly, I would never have moved here willingly, but the military had the say on that, but I have now been here 27 years and like the quality of life.

Good evening, fellow Tennesseans. Although I now live in Alabama, I am a native Tennessean. Grew up on S. 14th St. in East Nashville, close to Shelby Park. Went to Kirkpatric E.S. My grandmother (last name Dean) owned the long-closed Want-A-Burger drive in restaurant on Dickerson Road, right next door to (to the right of) the Savoy motel, and the Key motel across the street. Was another restaurant a couple of businesses down from her called the Better Burger (I think they've changed it's name). Also lived in Hermitage (Aloha Ct.), Goodletsville and White House. Would love hearing from anyone who might remember the Want-A-Burger, or any Nashvillians.

I was in Crossville in the mid 70's. Had a 7 acre place, grew everything, cattle, chickens, horse, etc. What a beautiful area of the country. If I'd've stayed, we'd be neighbors. I used to live off Old Hwy 27 (or 127? ... can't remember.)

Gosh, lots of great people from Tennessee. I've had the best of both worlds with Tennessee. I grew up in East Tennessee (Oak Ridge and Knoxville) and moved to middle Tennessee about 4 years ago and love it here too.
I live out past Lieper's Fork which is south of Franklin (I think). We have definitely got to have a Tennessee get together may in spring or summer if everyone wants to. I think it would be lots of fun!!
Since I travel A LOT back to East Tennessee (my DD goes to UT) then I have no problem having it either in East of Middle TN, just whatever everyone thinks.
YEAH for the Tennessee folks!! :jump:
