Some things to consider when making your wish list (this is already in the guidelines, but obviously needs repeating):
This swap is for YOU! That is great that you put some family likes but please make the focus of your list about YOU:)
Please make a diverse list - remember that your buddy will be purchasing items from $2.50 to $15.00 - putting all Gucci and Prada probably isn't going to cut it. And not everyone lives in towns with big stores, please keep that in mind as well.
Please don't make it an all gift certificates list - make a list so your buddy can actually buy you things - not just a bunch of GC's.
Feel free to go wild with your list! The more info you have on there the easier it is for your buddy to shop for you:)
Please make sure you put what holiday you celebrate and any sizes, color preferences, etc
Make sure and PM me your mailing address! If I don't have it - you won't be in the swap!
I think this is it from what Karen and I have seen - I'll add more if necessary:) Thanks you all :4kb:

Also, I want to add this to hopefully nip it in the butt before it happens.
Please don't post any hints ~ it takes the fun out of the swap when the person figures out who their swap buddy is before they get the package. Lets have fun with this.

If anyone's buddy is asking for bath products, body products or candles - here is a coupon good for 20% off at Bath & Body Works and White Barn Candle Co. It's good from November 10th through 16th.

LoL Gucci or Prada items for $15.00. :rofl3: I can't imagine even listing brands like that on this swap. :joker: I don't think you could find a cheap knock-off for that price.
If I decide to join in on this swap, and if you have Gucci or Prada on your list, you will be disappointed. :bounce:

I agree, please make your lists big. The person I had last year had a great list and it was so much fun shopping for her. There are some lists with only a few items(one list only has two things on it).

Time is running out to beef up those lists...........I tried to add as many things as I could think of to mine but I will try to think of one or two more just to get a variety for whoever has to shop for me. Some of the lists are super small and bare and would be impossible to try and get a gift in each price range that is required.:kitty:

I think sometimes people fear that if they list too much they will appear greedy. Not so. It is so much easier to buy for someone with a huge list. Noone expects someone to buy everything on the list.

Last year I had to ask Karen / KB to have my swap buddy send more info.

There are still a few who haven't added to their lists. PLEASE - I'm BEGGING you -- go update your lists. I know how hard it is to put down all your likes and wants, you don't want to sound greedy. I do know, I had a really hard time my first year for fear of the same thing. But think of it this way -- when a person has more choices to choose from, they have more fun shopping. If I have to stand in the mall and scratch my head because I don't know what you like, then it's not fun for me. And it's not going to be fun for you if you receive a pair of fun, fuzzy slippers in pink in a size 6 and you're a size 10...and a man. See? You have to update your lists!

There are two sizes of flat rate boxes at my PO...they give you the boxes and then charge you when you bring them back. They are $12.95 and $10.95 I THINK!! I know they have gone up in price. They aren't that big. Last year I spent a small FORTUNE on shipping because I didn't think of it when I was buying large size items or heavy things and I can't do that this year. Just be very selective about the size and shape of the gifts you buy if at all possible.
I know that many ship Fed Ex because it's supposed to be cheaper as well.
Good luck!:hairraise:hugs:

Also keep in mind on where you are shipping on flat rate boxes. I just shipped some baby gifts to hubby's sister in a flat rate box and it was $9 something. If I would have used a regular priority box it would only had been $5 something. It was going from NY to NC.
Yes, the flat rate boxes have gotten much much smaller. Remember you don't have to ship priority, first class is good enough (and normally only a day difference), but YOU MUST GET DELIVERY CONFIRMATION.

I just received a large flat rate box from someone. They spent around $13 to ship it because that is what the flat rate of the box is. But the items inside probably would have fit in something way smaller than even the smaller flat rate box and hardly weighed anything. They could have saved a small fortune if they had just put it in a regular box.

You can also order the different size boxes online from the USPS. The website is:
http://shop.usps.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10152&top=Y&categoryId=11820&parent_category_rn=&top_category=
Many of the items are free and there is no shipping. Since there is a minimum # to order on some of the sizes, my post office says just bring any unused boxes into the post office as they don't order all the different sizes and then it gives the customers coming in more choices.
Usually arrives within 7 to 10 business days

Still a few hours (5 1/2ish to be exact) to beef up those wish-lists. I see a few with just a few things on them. You won't seem greedy, it'll help your buddy pick out cool stuff for you.
Wanted to add this: for the people that end up on my 1/2 of the list, your buddy won't be sent out to you till this weekend (don't worry, plenty of time to shop). You'll get them as soon as I am able to.

Today i am so excited to be able to shop for my buddy. Yesterday was such a bummer for me. I spent half the day in the hospital. Hubby had to come home from work to pick me up from the floor and take me there. I had slipped on one of my two year old's toys with wheels on them and did a full split which hurt my knee so bad. I could not put any weight on the leg or even crawl because of the pain but luckily my 5 year old son was able to reach the phone and bring it to me. Turns out my knee is not broken which is a blessing but I have ligament and cartilage damage. The doctor gave me painkillers and prescription Motrin to reduce the inflammation. She also prescriped RICE for me which is an acronym for Rest, Ice, don't remeber what the C stands and Elevation. The doctor also gave me the name of an Orthopedic Specialist. What a pain. Talk about bad timing.
I was happy this morning to see that the person assigned to me has a nice long list which will make my shopping easier. I will probably have to do most of it online.

Got my buddy. I am happy to have his/her info as I will be out shopping tomorrow so I can start looking. Actually, I did some looking on the net today and found something I am thinking of sending to my buddy. I also know of one thing that I am definately getting at the store this week. My buddy is very different from me which is going to make things quite interesting. I did find one thing that we have in common and I am going to be sure to include that in my gift box.

I got my list this morning and promptly took off for Houston Ballet's Nutcracker Market. It's a great place to shop for Xmas gifts. As usual I bought more for me than anyone else, but I am off to a start for my swap buddy. This is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and to gain the start of the 20 holiday pounds with all the food samples I ate. (I never saw so many different fudges)

My buddy's list wasn't very long but that is okay. DH and I were shopping today and I picked up the materials to make my buddy a very personal gift in their fave colors.
I am going to start on it today and should have it done in a couple of days. I am hunting for the rest of the items on their list.

I went through my buddies list and started marking what I would buy based on what they wanted and the prices. I have everything but the M category. I am telling hubby what I am getting for my buddy and he says, "How much are you spending?!?!" I say to him that I love to GIVE...and he laughs and gives me a kiss on the cheek and says, "As long as your happy." Such a sweet guy.

My 4 yr old grand daughter called me early this morning and said "Yaya, do you want to go to the mall with me today?" Of course I said yes so we spent all day there and I didn't get a chance to get my buddy's name/list until after I got home. But...I did just order the "L" a few minutes ago - I'm shocked I found what I wanted. I really thought it was going to be a very hard item to find, if not at all. I'm a happy camper right now. Now I have to wait until the malls open again on Monday to start the hardcore shopping.

I was so excited that this was on my buddies list because I knew it was something fun I could get and then, nothing!!! I will succeed on this item:type:

Aww Twinsis, Hope you are feeling better today! :gvibes:

I really enjoy this swap. When it comes to gift giving, I love to be able to look at a persons likes/wants/needs and to be able to find and match the perfect gifts. This swap is the only time I get to do that. Otherwise, the people we buy for only want gift cards. That isnt very much fun.
Yesterday, I bought something at Amazon, Etsy and eBay. Tomorrow, I am going shopping at the brick and mortars. I cannot wait. I love this swap! My buddy has a fabulous list so its making it all the more fun.

Thank you Blackberry. You are such a sweetheart. The swelling is down quite a bit. I still can't put any weight on my leg so my hubby made an appointment for me to go to the doctor to see about gettng an MRI done to see how bad the damage is and how long it will take to heal. We are supposed to go to visit my mom for Thanksgiving next week so I am praying it will be healed enough so we can travel there next week. My family lives in SW Florida which is a 9 hour drive from here. I am trying to stay positive as much as I can and not let the situation get me too down because letting myself get depressed will only make things even harder. In the meantime I am learning that shopping online can be fun and have been finding some cool stuff online for my buddy. Even picked up something cute for myself at the Disney Store yesterday as a cheer up gift so I am currently undergoing some retail therapy. :-)

It's pretty fun but just to warn you it is pretty additive. I found lots of cool stuff based on my buddies taste that I bookmarked and now i have to sort through and make decisions and order. I usually prefer shopping for stuff in person but with my busted leg I am very restricted now.

Looks like from what my docotor said I am going to be immoblile for a couple of weeks. Apologies to my buddy ahead of time. Just think of it this way it is the what is inside the wrapping that matters not the outside wrapping when it comes down to it.

LOL. You and I think alike. I already started talking to my hubby yesterday about ordering in some Thanksgiving dinner since we can't travel to my family's house this year.
I also plan to order more gift bags online since I am planning on just putting everybody's gifts in gift bags this year to make things easier for me. I figure it is the contents that matter, not the wrapping. The kid's toys are an exception though. There stuff is just too bulky to just put in a gift bag. Also, the 5 year old would probably wonder why Santa was putting his stuff in gift bags this year. He is very observant. Not much gets by him. I also saw something really cute for my swap buddy online that I thought he/she would like so I guess I better go do my orders. I am a very slow careful shopper but i can't be too slow since I have to allow for shipping time.

I don't feel so bad then. I only have one item so far and the rest will have to wait until the weekend. I've had my sil's, dh's ds's and my niece's birthday all since the buddy list came out. Dearest Swap Buddy,
I hope you love all the great things I am finding for you! I am loving that today's purchases have been "one for you, one for me" - while surfing etsy last night I found a gorgeous scarf I can't stop thinking about - so while purchasing something for you - had to get that for me! Today while getting you something great I ran into the fair trade mittens/fingerless gloves I fell in love with last weekend.

I'm finding that I'm second guessing what I bought even though I bought the stuff that my buddy asked for. And then there's that "well, this could be the XS even though it was the same price as the XL...and so on. I'm not sure which item to put in each category and which should be the extras. And will my buddy feel left out if he/she didn't get enough extras as someone else. My gifts I bought cost a lot more than what was required so the extras might not be as many as what someone else receives. I don't want my buddy to feel left out though. So that's why I'm leaving my box opened for awhile, maybe I can find inexpensive, fun items to include.

XS should cost $2.50 and XL should cost $15 so they shouldn't be the same price. That is why we have the tiers so that people get one at each level:drum: The box MUST contain one at each level.

So I get to shop more. YAY!!! My husband's gonna love you! lol lol I do get the whole tier thing, I do, really, but I see what's on their wish list and I buy it. And truth be told, I do have an item that is $2.50 -- but I bought a pack of three of them. I didn't really go overboard this year. I couldn't afford it. What I did was if it was close to the price required I marked that. I got something that was about the price of the extra small but not quite small so that's how I did it. Me too!! I was on vacation last week and had a big event over the weekend, so I simply have not had any time to really shop since I got my buddy's name. However, I have studied my buddy's list and did do some online shopping this weekend so I have an idea of what my game plan is.....
I have really had a blast with this swap each year I participated, so I am looking forward to this. I have a feeling my box will not go out till close to the deadline as well...but that is okay -- that just means it gets there closer to Christmas. :bounce:

I love this swap but a couple of years got so carried away that the cost of shipping was ridiculous. This year I am sticking to the tiers and minimum plus adding a few extra goodies. I am always afraid my buddy will not be happy with what I get although I really do try and get things they have put on their list. My heart sinks though when I see that some people have 2 or three boxes loaded with gifts and I think my buddy must be disappointed in me and what he or she received.

We signed up for exactly what is on the tier list. Everyone will be happy if you follow the tiers and your buddy's list. Just don't send tea to a person who says they drink coffee. Messing with a coffee drinker by trying to get them to change to tea can get your head bit off.

YES, it would be lovely of you to include them. If they are what she wanted and you are kind enough to give them to her instead of keeping them for yourself, I'd say that is thoughtful & caring, not tacky at all!

I shopped all day today. I may make this a yearly tradition. I was all by myself and just wandered around and did whatever I wanted. I got a couple of my buddies things and almost ALL of my families presents purchased. Then I came home and ordered the rest of my buddy's stuff on-line. I will probably add some extras, but I have all the levels filled out.
... And then there's that "well, this could be the XS even though it was the same price as the XL...and so on. I'm not sure which item to put in each category and which should be the extras. I have a couple of items that cost more than the minimum in that category. No one should feel left out if you get something that you put in each level but then you don't send lots of extras. The number of Extras is NOT what this swap is about. IMHO :smile8:

I think it is very thoughtful of you to send them to her. That kind of stuff is rather expensive and since it is on her list you know it is something she wants. I say go for it!
Say that your buddy had some aging regeneration items on her wish list. If she did and I had won a lot of them which had never been opened would it be okay to send them to her with a note that I won them. I have already bought my tiered items but would it be tacky to send them to her?

Thanks everyone for your advice! I had won 275.00 worth of Sonya Dakar products and 150.00 of one which I think is French. I can not wear the products but the Sonya came with 260.00 flatware which I needed as I have never had really good ones. I have had both for about 2 months, never opened them and have been trying to figure out who might like them~

So yesterday I ordered some handmade items from another OLSer for my swap buddy! I'm very excited about them. However I am SO very excited that tomorrow my mom, sister and I are going to this huge Fair Trade Market! 2,500 sq feet of fair trade items!!!!
Thousands of unique, handmade, Fair Trade items with an average price of $20, live entertainment, food, and a chance to complete your holiday list without
a sweatshop in sight. Why go anywhere else?
SO:drum:VERY:drum:EXCITING

Okay, yesterday I went out and shopped for my Swap Buddy.
So I now have purchased the XL, L, M, S and XS gifts.
I like everything I got and think she/he will, too.
But then I compared my gifts against the list of my Swap Buddy and I'm thinking - wow - there are so many things I COULD HAVE gotten her/him.
So I plan to pick up a few 'extras' so that my Swap Buddy will have a positive experience wiith this exchange.

It seems like with this Holiday Swap of last year and before, we were encouraged to WAIT until December to ship.
When is the IDEAL time to be shipping, say you???

ok for some reason the quote button didn't work but oh well that's how the day seems to be going. I have all the packages wrapped. I put little post it's showing which is which prize level ( almost missed that in the rules) and started taping up the box. but duh I forgot the card. So off to the CVS pharmacy I go.
As my dad would tell me when I had days like this as a kid. I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached to my body.

Ordered some items that should arrive on Monday and bought the rest locally. Hope he/she likes most of their items. I have some goodies for their family members too.

Doin the happy dance  cause I have all the main gifts purchased. So far, the couple of online purchases are on schedule to be delivered to me way before the deadline. I have a list of a couple of extras to buy, but I am so stoked I have found the major things!
Yippee!!!! And I think I will be able to get everything into 2 of the flat rate boxes. Saving some $$ on shipping too.
:bounce:
Note to buddy.... I am not a wrapper. I have tried... I swear.... but I do a great gift bag! LOL! So, be warned. Presents - check. Great wrapped presents - not so much.

Wow... some of you have already shipped and I haven't even shopped...
I've done some awesome stalking and "window" shopping ala the Internet...
I can't believe I found one item on Etsy that my buddy will absolutely flip over... to me it should be an expensive gift but the price was so low that I can put it as the small gift and buy something else... I've already found that, too... Can't order anything until Monday though (payday) so I probably won't be able to ship until the last minute....
But, oh.... my buddy is gonna love it....

My package arrived today from hawkshoe. Hubby got it as I am out of town until tomorrow. And even though he begged, I would not let him open my box!! No way!! I will post tomorrow night what I got. My own buddy will have to wait a few days longer--I am still shopping. :faces:

I mailed out my buddies package this afternoon....it should arrive sometime next week and has a long way to travel. I hope my buddy is happy with everything that I picked out.:cheer4:
I am actually glad I didn't use the flat rate boxes because shipping was much less than I had anticipated.

DH and I did some more shopping for my swap buddy today while we finished up our Christmas shopping.
I found something really awesome for her at ULTA!!!! Something very pampering in her fave color too!!!
I can't wait to finish up and mail it out.
I am really excited about getting my box too since I won't get anything else this year basically. We aren't decorating for Christmas either because we are moving mid December.
But it is a very happy thing!!

I got lucky with the box. I ordered this book for my nephew and they sent it in a great big box(waste of space for the book if you ask me) so it was perfect.

I stopped at the post office yesterday to get some priority boxes to ship my buddies gifts and family gifts and the clerk told me I had to order the boxes online and my mail carrier would deliver them. All they had were the flat rate boxes there. She said all post offices were supposed to stop carrying the various boxes b/c customers are supposed to go online to order. Thats wacky dont you think?

I just checked out their website. One of the things I need I have to order as a pack of 10. That seems very wasteful to me. And it said that it takes 7-10 business days. Thats crazy.

My post office asked that I bring the unused boxes back to them for their lobby, so that others would not have to order them and wait, but could pick them up there.

Yup, my local post office tells me the same thing. They rarely have a selection of boxes (the different sizes), if at all, and they are always running out of even the common flat rate sizes. They claim they don't have room to store them. But if you go online to order them, you have to order them in packs -- sometimes of 25! I still have big stacks of various ones I had to order when I only needed one or two and I don't have room to store anymore. It's ridiculous -- it's their business and they *should* have a place to keep them in stock for their customers. Not to mention the fact that it has to be costing them more to ship them out to individual customers than if they just kept them in stock at their own post offices! One day I was home when my delivery from them arrived and it came by UPS!

I have a box already left over from something I recently won so I plan on using that. I am still waiting on some of the things I ordered online. I am hoping they get here by the end of this coming week so I can pack everything up and send it out by 12/8. I always like to get things out early so that there is plenty of time for it to get to my buddy just in case they are travelling somewhere for the holidays.

I just calculated the S/H charges on sending my package to my swap buddy. I used the USPS.com website and UPS.com. I had to enter the L x W x H; zip code to and from and weight of package. It was virtually the same (about ten cents difference) to ship UPS instead of by mail--and it would get there in three days versus approximately 7 days for mail. I was surprised to find this out.

I had boxes all over the kitchen yesterday. I cannot find a box to fit everything as I have a couple of odd shaped things. DH thinks I have offically lost my mind as I tried box after box. I would pack it all in one box only to discover it wouldnt fit just right. LOL...I am waiting on one thing to arrive and then I can wrap that, add it to the box and tape it up.

I seem to have this ability to pack boxes really well. The box I have right now might work, but I think I may have to transverse to my basement for a different box. (Bigger!) An item I ordered TWO WEEKS ago is still not here..but the mail hasn't ran yet and UPS doesn't come till the afternoon and they could have sent it either way. Later I am going to the mall to pick up the last things for my buddy.

Who plans to wait until Christmas/Holidays to open their gifts?
Who opens the gifts right away, as soon as they get them?
