The boy scouts rescued a number of discarded American flags from trash bags and dumpsters at the site of the DNC. It appeared they were destined to just be thrown away.

Thank God for Boy Scouts and yes, that's a good question.

I have looked for something on the flags from the RNC but have not found anything yet. The information about the DNC was on the television.

Boy Scouts? Hmm. So far the only mention that I've seen of this is in a blog, and it states that unnamed Republicans said it was a(n equally unnamed) worker @ Invesco.

this page won't load for me. i found a link on drudge and that won't load for me either. i don't know whether it's the same link or not.
i'd also be curious to find out, if these boyscouts rescued the various sizes of fabric flags or just the paper ones. and what were boyscouts doing there anyway?

What, you haven't seen the pictures of Obama personally stuffing trash bags with flags????
He's the one in the turbin.

They're brand new flags, the size the boy scouts here put out at Fort Logan National Cemetary every year. I don't see why they didn't give them to the boy scouts to use at the cemetary. They have to buy new ones every year because the cemetary keeps getting bigger and bigger every year.
Why trash it when you can re-use it?

Because that would be called "recycling"

Yep, same link. There's something in the post mentioning that [referring to pic posted above] isn't even half of the flags they'd taken. Looking for an actual article, with named sources, more info and perhaps a Dem response but so far nothing.
I think vets are supposed to bring them out on stage and tell the story before McCain and Palin make an appearance. Wondering if the unnamed Invesco worker turned unnamed boy scouts will morph into an unnamed someone else.

The only mention I've seen of this is on idiotic (free republic for example) far right wing sites with NO credible sources.
p.s. That staged photo could have been taken anywhere.

Did they come from Canada?? Michigan loves Canadian trash...and the democratic environmental policies..
You want an actual democratic view on environmental issues...check out Michigan's policy...you'll love it..and Gore is worried about the ozone layer...lets worry about the water.

Yep, same link.
There's a picture accompanying the post. If I recall correctly: 6-8 black garbage bags, all open and flags visible inside [small fabric ones, like they pass out at speeches and parades. You could see them rolled up around their sticks. There were also, IIRC, some unfurled flags of the same size unbagged in the back, either up against the wall or lying on the floor -- and either a caption or a blurb mentioning that somebody [unnamed Republican?] said that wasn't even half of the flags they'd taken. They looked to be in a conference hall or meeting room, based on the carpet and the chairs. No people visible in the picture.
I think vets are supposed to bring them out on stage and tell the story before McCain and Palin make an appearance.
could they have been put out for the boyscouts to pick up? in all honesty, why would boyscouts go the aftermath of a convention if it wasn't to pick something up?

The Denver Post?
IT'S A BLOG in the Denver Post, NOT NEWS, with NO evidence except a staged photo.
Curious!

Maybe the clean up crew at the convention center (stadium) found them and called the boy scouts to ask if they knew what should be done with them.
Someone on here asked a question about disposing of flags and another person suggested calling the boy scouts.

No, it was not for that, everyone knows it was the Democrats being unpatriotic. Your explanation is just too logical, so it is not acceptable.

I didn't see the Pepsi Center during the DNC, but Invesco was a crazy madhouse, both early in the day and especially after Obama's speech. That was my biggest complaint; very little organization for coming and leaving. It was confusing and hectic.
They should have had more recycling bins and stuff, at least from what I saw. There were lots of bins for recycling plastic bottles, but I wish they would have thought ahead for people wanting to leave the flags for re-use. There were A LOT of flags being handed out. (We kept ours, of course...good souvenir!) I know they can't cover everything, but bins for flags and signs would have been good.

Definitely plausible. I'd think that if there were any truth to this story: it'd be being covered outside of a blog; at least one of those involved would be named; and the story would have been out sooner (like, let's say, just before or during the Republican's convention -- what better way to fire up the base and remind them how much "Democrats hate America", ha)

According to a article just out from Huffington Post, (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/06/thrown-away-flags-story-f_n_124499.html) the story about flags from the Democratic National Convention being thrown away is simply false. .

Ha. And I was actually going to type 'wouldn't it be hilarious if they were bagged for donation pickup/dropoff and somebody actually stole them". But it just sounded wrong.
The second comment on that post is just... sad.

text and link on drudge link changed. forget what it was earlier, but now reads "McCain camp claims to rescue trashed Dem flags', and rather than linking to Denver Post blog, points to Fox News -- McCain Camp 'Rescues' Flags from Obama Rally (http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/09/06/mccain-camp-to-chastise-dems-for-discarding-american-flags/)
Damon Jones, spokesman for the Democratic National Convention Committee, released a statement saying McCain should applaud the fact that thousands of American flags were “proudly waved” at their convention.
“But instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play out a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism,” he said.
