Best pre-paid cell phone plan?

I need to get a pre-paid cell phone and im curious who has the best plans thesedays? ive tried several in the past, including altel, sprint, at&t and verizon so Im really just lookin for the best deal for the buck.. I dont talk alot, and am hoping to get something with rollover minutes. I dont text much either, but will probably want to be able to if i need to text or recv a text.

Who do you use? Are you happy with their service?

My daddy sells Alltel and he gave me one of the prepaid ones and i liek it pretty good. I dont ue it much so i have it set for .15 cents a minute but you can pay by the minute, day, or month. You just pick your plan. You can pick up a phone at walmart for about $25 and if you activate it online you get 60 minutes free. It also comes with i believe 10$ in calling time already on it too. Then if you need more minutes you can do it online or at a local alttel retailer.

You can try Tracfone. Granted, it doesn't do rollover, it is still good! I've had them for a few years now. Their phones are relatively cheap. Depending on how many minutes you want, it goes from $22 to $100. www.tracfone.com

I personally like Virgin Mobile. I like the fact that they have the Sugar Mama program where you can earn 75 free minutes a month by looking at and rating ads.

I've been using Virgin Mobile for a couple of years and I'm very happy with it. They have GREAT customer service. :yesyes:

I'd say NET10.

It is by far the cheapest at $0.10 (ten cents) a minute.

When you buy a new phone, it also comes with 300 minutes FOR FREE at activation.

Cheapest phone is 30 at most retailers (walmart etc) but Kmart is having a sale for $20!

I've used net10 for years without problems. It is ran the same company that runs tracfone. In fact, it is the frequent user service FOR tracfone...

Text messages cost 0.5 units per, or 5 cents.

I talked to someone local who said virgin mobile wasnt that good here yet.. its only been avilable for a short time.. i ended up going with an alltel one for now and they do have those 60 free minutes which should work for me until the landline gets hooked up. i think after then, im gonna try out virgin mobile cause they are getting good reviews everywhere. including here at OLS where it counts! :laugh:

Net10 was sold out of the cheaper phones or i would have went with them. Tracfone doesnt really pick up good in the country here where ill be at most of the time so i didnt wanna chance it with them. I know alltel will work out in the boonies where i am. LOL..

if you do it by the minute that would be .15 it would be approximently 66 minutes. Unless you text which is 10 cents a minute

On the daily plan its $1 a day and you get so many minutes a day and its free after i believe 7 or 8 if i am thinking right. You have to have at least a dollar in your account to work for that day. The monthly deal i believe is $30 a month and you get nites and weekends free. You can also add extra packages to get unlimited txting and such too. I need daddy to come look at this thread so he can explain it better LOL

Personally i really like Alltel cuz if I only have $3 or so to put on my phone i can have that added and i know i have at least 20 minutes on there. I really only use mine for emergencys so its a REALLY good deal for that.

Yes, Greenly, I agree.. it was worth it. I got the 60 free minutes plus the $10.. I may switch to the monthly plan later on if the service picks up good. I apprecaite you telling me about the free minutes or I wouldnt known to look for that.. thanks.

Go Phone through AT&T/Cingular....no other can compare.

** Least dropped calls
** Do "Pick your plan" instead of the regular prepaid and you pay a flat rate per month for 600 anytime minutes, 1000 nights and weekends, and rollover.

*** Buy the phone off their website and they are HUGELY discounted! Nice nice nice phones too!

*** Your rollover from your Go Phone account is in dollars and not minutes and you CAN convert it to a regular post paid cell account with AT&T like we did and they credit that money to your account to pay your bills. AND you don't even have to sign a contract. Only if you want a specific phone on a discount. The rate plans are the same with or without a contract!!!!

DH and I converted our GoPhones (we had 2 total) and the $1,000 in roll over that we had into a post paid contract (we chose a contract to get the latest phones for free)...and we won't have to pay a cell phone bill for 2 lines for about a year.

Can't beat that!

Catlady, what a wonderful thread you posted! I just changed my mind on Tracfone. When my minutes run out on this phone, i'm going with Virgin Mobile. Their prices are what i'm looking for!!

Virgin Mobile is what I used to have. Used trac phone and had bad experiences with them. Had ATT prepaid and they were ok.


Virgin mobile used to give free minutes from time to time and even double what you put down towards minutes. Not sure if they still do it though.

I had trac phone for about five years loved it, loved it so sorry I switched to t-mobile
family plan trac phone was the best If I had the money to buy some new tracphones
I would probably be switching back.

First when DD went off to college we got her the prepaid Virgin Mobile - lousy
expensive experience. I would never use Virgin Movile I'm glad that other
have been happy with there VM.

Then will the college kid and my sister who were with t-mobile we switched to that
I don't like the t-mobile the coverage stinks and the customer service reps fibe
at times imho

actually, i think it depends on how much you add, like $20 is good for 30 days, $40 is good for 60 days, etc. I seen that on the sign at walmart where I got it but cant find that info on the homepage.

So far, its worked really good at my house which is way out in the country. Im gonna keep my eye out for a better plan and might even try out virgin mobile to see for myself how the coverage is.
