I am so excited! My mother is buying me a new couch. We went to a local place that has reasonably priced yet good quality furniture.
My apt is pretty small and it is my son and I. I was debating between two couches - one is a sectional - after measuring it would fit in the room but take up the entire wall - I would then have to move my computer desk somewhere else but it's workable. It is $799.
http://shop.mybobs.com/sectionals.aspx
The second one and the one my son loved is called the "bob o' matic". I can't find a picture of it and it doesn't seem to be on their website at all. It's a couch that has two motorized recliners on two sides and the middle back cushion folds down into a table and two drink holders. It is kind of cool and my son would love it to play video games, etc. There is one similar to it but only folds down with the drink holders and no little table.
For looks and more seating the sectional would prob. be the better choice.
For comfort and fun the second one with the motorized recliners (which are really comfy btw!) would be better and that is the one my son likes.
My mother likes the recliners my sister hates them and says they are early 90's and out.
I can only spend $799. I need opinions!!! This is a big purchase for me!

I forgot to mention the $799 sectional is the "Libre".

Are these your options?

If it is a choice between these two, go with the smaller one. A piece of furniture that "just fits" in a small room means the space will always look and feel cluttered, cramped and crowded. I've learned this the HARD way.
Right now I have a couch that "just fits" and I wish, wish, wish I had something smaller. I can't fit a nice little end table or lamp next to it (wish I could), is a real pain to move it to clean, whenever anything rolls underneath it is as if it went into a black hole, and I'd be better off with few inches more floor space. But ... unless I win a couch soon, I gotta live with it.
If it was my choice, though, I'd pick this one. :yesyes: Think your mom will buy it for me?

See which one you fall asleep fastest on and get that one, but make sure it's not too high off the ground so you can't reach the TV remote when it falls on the floor when you do fall asleep.

I think the sectional would offer more seating for guests...
It's beautiful, btw...

If the choices are the two annulla posted I would pick the first one. It looks more modern. The second one does look like it is from the 80s/90s. It does look comfortable but not my style.
I like the Libre one. :)

I could totally take a nap on that sectional - I think there is room for two!

I like the sectional. Even though it's bigger it's sleek and doesn't seem like it will be too over powering.

I vote the sectional too, if the motor goes out on the other one how much fun will that be in 2-3 years? lol

The red one was the first one I looked at and liked!! That's so funny. It is really small though and I'm afraid it will be too small for the room. I'm also iffy about the color and how long that color will be "in".
I guess I'll have to think about it some more. The other couch with the motorized recliner isn't the cinema bob - it looks like a regular couch that you can lie on but the back folds down.
The brown one is big but like someone else said it is pretty sleak and wouldn't take up that much room.
I'm still considering the red one but am afraid it is too small. The room is pretty small but the wall is longer. I really su&* at decisions!
Thanks! ~ Lauren

Oh my, no motorized couch! No!
Heavy and if the motor dies, you are SOL.

I think the sectional offers versatility, I also like the red one - it's classy and remember if you have a small apartment you need small furniture
You need to leave space to walk around and for tables etc.,
I actually like this one personally:
http://shop.mybobs.com/productimages/414/632/LivingRooms/Fabric/Safari/SAFASL-FAB_Safari_SofaLoveseat.jpg
They're shorter lengthwise but look really deep and comfy - napwise & the color is good (longevity, kids, pets) and neutral (classic).
I don't like the patchwork square fabric on the pillows, I would buy some light blue or gree satin pillow covers for those.

I think it would be better to have a couch that is a bit too small than one that just fits. Furniture that you have to squeeze into space just makes a small room look and feel even smaller. I love the red, I personally would not care if the color went out of fashion, meh to fashion anyway (am not opposed to style, just don't dig trendiness), but if you're worried about that you could cover it with a throw, recover it, or get a slip on cover in a more up to date color.

Um, not as much as you might think, because the pieces would look ODD if they were separated or arranged any other way. You're pretty much locked into keeping them the way they are in the photo.

I like the red one - my mother hates it. She's kind of a blah beigy person anyways.
The Libre wouldn't take much more room than my couch now only because My room is set up with a computer desk and chair - then the couch, then a lamp in the corner next to the couch.
Now if I were to get the longer libre couch I would just have to move the computer desk and the lamp which can easily fit in a corner on the other wall where my tv is.
This way the sectional might actually make the room look bigger because it would be just one couch along the wall instead of all broken up with different pieces. As far as the chaise part there is pleny of room for that.
I do not have a coffee table becuase it would be too cluttered. I have little tv trays that stand up and bring them out when we need them.
My current couch is extra wide and probably comes out more than the libre would. My son went to sit back on the libre and said the back wasn't high enough. My present couch has the big removable pillow backing and comes up pretty high.
I like the earth tone of the libre and would throw on some cool pillows in maybe aquamarine and brown patterns.
The red is funky though and I do like it!
I'll have to think some more! I'm just excited!

The red style also comes WITHOUT that chaise-style extension. As a plain couch it is $499, so you could afford a matching/coodinating chair, too -- either chair style is $299.
Or, you could get the couch/chaise and a chair as a package for $799.
Whatever you decide, I hope you post pictures when you get it home. :D

Thank you everyone!!! I still haven't completely decided. I will try and take some photos when I finally get one.
I can't have a sofa and loveseat because there is simply no room and it makes the room look cluttered. I was looking for either one couch with maybe recliner or something (because I need room for both my son and I) or a sectional that will look sleek and kind of go around the room. The current couch we have doesn't fit both of us well because he likes to sprawl out. I end up sitting on my computer chair!
I could possibly do the red one with chaise and then put the chair somewhere but it is not long enough for my son to lounge out across and me on the chaise - he is tall! The only one that would accomadate that is the libre. Hmmm.

I wouldn't go for the red if I were you - that color will be "out" before you know it.

We bought a sectional just like the one you posted with the chaise. hated it. Took it back a year later to Costco because my kid sat on it, or should I say "fell" on it and broke the frame! So, I was glad to take it back since I did not like the size and the material. The material made it difficult to slid forward, or off. It was made of some type of Chenel. The only piece of "new furniture" I had bought, and it was broken in almost a year! Since I did not like it, I think it was a god send that it broke! Now..we are back to a used one.
But, the sectional, it is big, and if your apt is smaller...go for the red one! I like that...it is beautiful and to be able to get a chair would be great. Just think of the decor you could do around such wonderful pieces? I love the red! Now...I want one just like it!
What color are your walls? What is your other furniture like and will it fit the same style?
I don't know what your favorite colors are, but, you could do just about anything with this. you can do a focal wall in a different color to down play the brightness if it is too bright as well as using throws, rugs and curtains in different colors.
Don't get stuck with a monsterous piece of furniture unless you have a monsterous home to put it in!
In staging you should have at least 3ft between furniture and walls, etc...for walking paths, if not more. Sorry, my Realtor side is showing! Remember you have to fit in tables, and other furniture and do not want to have to walk sideways to get through!
Not real hip on the checkered pattern, but, I have put together strips and flowers that looked real cool. So, I guess it is the whole package that counts and not just the one piece.
And, since it is your house, and you are the one to live with it, go for the one you think you will love for years to come. I have never known red to go out of style, only when it is used inappropriatly. Maybe you can get picks of where you are going to put them?

You have been given some good advice. If the sectional is too big for the space it will make the space look smaller. Maybe just get a tape measure out and see if you feel comfortable with the amt of room left. I don't care for the red one as it is loud. It may be cool now but will you want that a year from now? Also does it match the walls, carpet and other decor? I would go with a more neutral color but add vivid bright throw pillows (red if you want). Furniture is such an investment, you don't want to purchase something that will be out of date quickly or that you grow out of/tire of quickly. Accessories are an easy way to add color and they are much cheaper to change out if you get tired of them.
Have fun shopping! :jump:

If it's between the two styles in the post with both pictures I would choose the one in the first picture.

Why don't you look a little more? The furniture we bought last fall was completely different from what I thought I was going to get.
Also, I have a LazyBoy Couch out in my garage that I purchased in 1994. It has recliners on both ends, the pull down table with drink holders, and a pull out drawer. You can lie down on it. I'm kinda over that in the 2000s
I may clean it and do something with it; I don't know what yet.

The Carrington
Can you fit the love seat in a bedroom?
Can you rearrange your space?
I have a very small living room and I have two couches, coffee table, 2 cozy chairs, a bookcase, tv cabinet, a drop leaf table behind a couch, and computer table and computer chair and an ottaman/that is used as a side table for a lamp. I also have two entrances
to the living room a bump out and two angled walls. Useable space about 12x12 with two
entrances that can't be blocked. (traffic flow)

I love the whole red set. It is bright and cheerful. Whatever you get, buy some decorative pillows.

You might want to think about going with a smaller sofa and a chair and a half. I just recently purchased one and the ottoman to match. I can pull it up really close to the couch or the chair to make extra room in the living room when needed. Just another option for you to think about! Good luck with whatever you choose.
