Every moring the first thing I do is see if theres a new update on the site. Its probably so simple that we have all guessed it but havn't worded it right to get the win. Any ideas on the new update? Do you think theres a clue in there somewhere?:smile2:

I think the same thing. I really think I have guessed it and just not worded it how they want it. It drives me nuts too because I swear I know that sound and you watch, when someone finally wins we will all be saying WTH....lol. I finally broke down today and emailed it to all my friends and told them to give it a listen and if they want to enter themselves instead of helping me then give me a finders fee and at least take me out to lunch or something:tongue2:. My family is already sick of hearing it.

:)This is driving me crazy too! At one time the rolling information bar said that someone came close but not exactly on January 17th. Everyone should go to your account information and check and see what your guess was for the 17th and expand on it and maybe that could be the answer. I hope someone gets this soon! Best of luck to everyone.

I check for updates to. I'm hoping they will give us some clues. Maybe the clue thats up now means something. Like the part about "carries valuable information". I also read through some reasearch, they sometimes give you clues in the guess result emails. So its important to guess everday. One of the clues for the last sound, the ice maker, they put in the scroller on the homepage, it was "all right stop....". The reason this makes sense is cause the song is called "ice Ice baby" Get it? So even thier clues are tough. Oh and one more thing, this sound was up a few months ago, but they took it down cause no one could figure it out. I really hope someone gets it. At this point, I just want to KNOW what the sound is.

Does anyone have the exact clue they had up? Someone on another board said something about another clue which mentioned the seven apostles, and deduced it may have something to do with seven rock formations in Australia. I'm not sure if they were talking about this sound or maybe another.

I also remember the clue that was up to say that someone was close in the last week and they just posted the date that they put up the clue which was the 7th.. But that was my perspective. I'm entirely not sure. :) Good Luck! Let's get this sound!

Vicky

Oh yeah, it's not a toaster popping up or a dishwasher spray arm dropping when you open the door or a trash can with a pedal

I'm not sure, but remember reading that...i thought it referred to a sound in the past...something about the seventh apostle being Matthew..and the sound had something to do with a mat (like door mat)...

This truly sounds like something being pushed or pressed, a lever going down, and something dropping or coming to rest.
I swear I know this sound, but all answers so far are wrong.

I think the key words in the hint are WHERE...and valuable....

Hope I help jog someones brain...cuz mine's stymied....

Henry George

"....he started to work his way up through the newspaper industry in 1865, starting as a printer, continuing as a reporter, and ending up an editor and proprietor."

He's most famous for writing Progress and Poverty - "an American political economist and the most influential proponent of the "Single Tax" on land."

No clue what any of that would have to do with this infuriating contest, but I thought I'd throw it out there! :goofy3:

Don't feel bad, it could be any zany association with those words. In the past they've used a word or two that was the opening of an old 90's 'one-hit-wonder' song. Continue loose association...lol

They still want such a detailed description to the sound, I concentrate on the sound mostly. I think the clues are more to drive us insane!:goofy3::faces:

I think I'm fresh out of guesses even guessing them in all different ways. My friends/ family have been guessing with me with different variations and nada. It's too general of a sound ..meaning it sounds like so many things. It sounds like a toy, then it sounds like a printer, a dishwasher, a door and most of all a vending machine. If you play the sound and pause it, at the very end you hear something thunk like a door shut or a dropping of something. Or it could be an echo of the previous sound. It sounds farther away or maybe a drifting echo.

It sounds like plastic and metal to me but the end sounds like a door.

Lots of ideas about George and Henry...

George Henry had to do with typesetting and publishing

There is a well known intersection in Aussieland...corner of George and Henry Streets

George and Henry Lavins (if i recall last name correctly...) were Aussie historic figures during the gold rush there....

Of course, the king reference...

I'm thinking it has to do with a brand for some reason...

But none of this seems to be getting me any closer to the answer. Like most, I think I've come close....but no cigar.

It's the sound of the arm being pulled and released on a slot machine as the arm clicks down and then snaps back in to place.

It's the ball on a roulette wheel being propelled into the center and landing in one of the numbered spaces.

It's the sound of placing a coin in the 'hand' of one of those old fashioned mechanical banks, triggering the mechanism, and the mechanical bank moving the coin into the slot where it drops into the bank.

Ejecting a cassette tape from a tape deck.

It's pressing a key such as the no sale key on an old fashioned cash register and the sound of the other numbers dropping down into the register as they are replaced by the new signs and numbers

The sound is from a bathroom vending machine. The coin is put in the slot and the handle is turned to drop the coin in place to pay for the 'item' in question.

Hi Sarah,

My name's Marie... I knew right away it had something to do with ice, after the clue, "Alright stop".

I've been trying to guess eversince the 2nd MSS sound, and I think we're at the supposedly 7th MSS, the 4th one was replaced (but it's not the same sound as this one, as someone here mentioned).

I think this one's got something to do with either: chests, horses or money. I haven't received an answer on my last guess... my b/f and I take turns on guessing with a different account name.

Here's a little something to note: It seems that MSS is 1 guess per day, but NOT per email account-per-MSS account! (Maybe that's cheating, but it sure as hell gives you more chances to guess!!)

Good luck to everyone!
My wrong guesses:
Inserting a coin into a laundromat machine.
Turning a dial to get a candy ball out of the slot of a candy machine.
A table hockey puck getting into the goal.
Pushing the eject button of a cassette player open. The sound at the end is the cassette.
Inserting a piece of chip into a slot of a game known as Connect Four.
A sink stopper knob being released.
A hole puncher being pressed and then released.
Pushing down the knob of an onion slicer to cut the onions, then releasing it.
Placing a plastic coaster into a container.
Inserting a piece of shape into a hole of a toy roller rattle ball.
Pushing down the toilet flush button and releasing it as the button comes back up.
Pulling down a spring-loaded lever of a vintage Adding Machine. The end sound is the lever coming back up.
Inserting a single metal block into the slot of a letterpress frame used for typesetting. The end sound is when the block settles into the frame.
Pushing a toilet roll holder into position. The sound at the end is when the holder locks in place.

Some email replies from MSS:
Comments from MySecretSound Team regarding your guess:
Someone just had a close guess! This doesn't mean to say it was you (although it could have been)
DeeWon: Quote- I also received this same message regarding my guess. (A Pirate chest full of gold coins .the sound of locking it. They told me the same thing up above.

And someone said they received a comment "None" ??

From another site an email reply " "Someone just had a close guess! This doesn't mean to say it was you (although it could have been), it just means it might go off soon!"???"

But take the email replies with a grain a salt, because the same have been received by others with past sounds.

I'm guessing that the Henry or George clue is no longer valid for some reason and that is why they are eliminating it. Maybe something was going on at the intersection of henry and George that week??? ;)

(I figured: Henry George was born in Philedelphia and Chestnut Street... the first and second banks came from Chestnut St -- from the clue "in chestnuts you find a pot of gold")

Well, I stumbled upon this contest and listened to the sound about a dozen times. Then I did some research based on the clues. And I have a funny feeling I got the sound! The answer came to me pretty quickly after scanning the guesses everyone had. Oh please please please let my guess be right 'cause it absolutely fits the clues perfectly too! Guess I have to wait for the email now. If I got it right with one guess I'll flip.

Ok...Henry and George where dudes associated with TK records.
Goes with the chesnuts/pot of gold record.
TK records dealt with KC and the Sunshine band...
They did Rock Your Baby, or something like that name of song

So again, went with an automatic baby rocker/swing

We'll see...

GLTA!

It almost seems like they want us to forget the previous clues. Do you think? Or do they all meld together? I wonder?

Good Grief Vicky I really wish I knew. They have refered to everyone as team, don't know if that is a hint or everything I see refers to the %$#@^&* sound. Maybe by the end of the week a new clue or actually a new part of the riddle will be up. good luck everyone and I truly hope one of you gets it so I can stop the banging in my head!!!:bhead:

:fairy5:

Remember guys: It could be what you guessed already, or if you've figured out the clue... but it's also how you word it.

Even if they're all in the sentence or 2, MSS looks for the steps of the sound, not just: Eg. A coin going into a laundromat machine. Or, not: Eg. The sound of candy out of a candy ball.

They want it to be really descriptive, precise and all the main things again:
1) Item
2) Action
3) Conclusion

Good luck! :magic:

Ps. Has anyone got an email yet from guessing over the weekend?

:tiptoe: I have a feeling they're going to end this one by next week. I remember the last "unsolved" sound ended by the 3rd month!

I really wouldn't mind them ending it now... Oh and they always refer to us as team, sometimes even, "Go Mysecretsound team!" or "Don't give up team Mysecretsound!":rolleyes4

I think I'm just going to unsubscribe from this thread, delete the contest from My Sweeps, and check back ...oh, I don't know.....in about six months, to see if anyone's guessed it yet.

Seriously - the time I"ve wasted listening over and over, trying to figure this out? That's like DAYS of my life that I'm never going to get back. For $1,600???? No, not anymore. This is no longer a fun puzzle and a challenge, it's a major annoyance now.

I'm cutting myself off. I'm done. Over. Fini. :goofy3:

That's an interesting way of looking at it... what I got out of that was something different.

And that record: Pot of Gold by Chestnuts, I'm also looking into the lyrics, I only got the updated version, which is a tribal/dance version without much lyrics :look:

I have spent so much time trying to work this out - all time I have missed out on life, time with my kids and time playing with my dog.
Seriously, not worth getting too involved. Will put my quick guess in each day but that's it!

I think Ive cracked BOTH clues, as I can relate them to one another. Took me AGES. The only problem is, is it right? I dont know. I might be way off. Just a matter of wording it right I guess, I can't say anything yet cos i put in HOURS. I have guessed 5 pages worth and alot of it is the same stuff said on this site, and I just found it! But I can say that Ive seen a similiar "idea" on this website. So I know other people are thinking similiar.

This sound is getting frustrating...

GOOD LUCK TO US ALL!

Sorry if I am repeating...I really didn't want to read all 19 pages.

It's NOT the lever of a ViewMaster toy being pushed down and released, and its NOT an automatic record changer turning off after the last record has been played.

Chesnuts I assume is supposed to be chestnuts. Henry and George and chestnuts and pot of gold all lead me to horse racing...

Oh I forgot, its NOT the betting ticket printer at the horse races...

Maybe this lead is way out there, but anyone please feel free to follow through. I have no knowledge of horses or racing and the sounds that might be related.

... Its definitely NOT the starting gate!

Let me join the rest of you...:bhead:

Now someone just needs to go through the list of guesses and get VERY specific with each one.

"Inserting a newly grinded key into a 4 year-old deadbolt lock in an oak door and turning the tumbler counter-clockwise at exactly 11:59 AM until the tumbler clicks locked."

Or something like that.

One time a day until we've done them all.... start from the top or the bottom or work as a team.

Meantime, keep your head spinning :smile2:

Not...

"The sound heard when winning a game of russian roulette."

WOW! Do you really think it is the sound of a GUN going off (although I wouldn't call that a "Win")! LOL.

Russian roulette is when you put one bullet in a gun and spin the cylander each time the gun is passed around. One by one you hold the gun up to your temple..... I will stop now.

Roulette (just one word), is the ball spinning around the numbered spinner that you play in Vegas or other gambling places.

Also, from what we've been discussing the answer would have to be something like, "A roullete ball spinning in a clockwise direction at 3:45 PM in a dimly lit room located in Melbourne, Australia that eventually bounces and lands in place on Green 00 thus causing Mr. Richard Starkey to win $200.00 AUD."

I keep stepping away from this sound for at least four days, and each time it sounds slightly different or I notice new things. I guess it depends on my mood or recent experiences (now I am hearing a definite wood on wood sound… maybe it is chestnut wood).

My wife swears that it is a pull down handle on an old fashioned calculator, and has submitted that as her answer in multiple different ways on the site (she has yet to guess "George Henry's pull down arm calculator with chestnut wood finish doing its final calcualtion of counting all of his gold").

I have started re-submitting my old answers with more specifics (like I suggested in an above post). I wish they would give you a hint when you are close….like "that was very close, but not quite it, keep trying every day for your chance to win, and now here is an advertisment." But I guess that would be favoritism since they haven't done that for anyone else. I think a lot of people are going to raise a stink when the final answer comes through….like "I guessed that 3 months ago… I just didn't add the part about the ball bouncing once!"

Idea… maybe, something "Henry" and "George" related falling onto chesnut wood panelled floors? Arrrrgh :tongue2:

LOL! I have to agree on both counts, but we sold 400 of those krackers last year and that web site does $1.4 mil a year sales.:jump:

If my wife brought home a $300 pecan cracker I'd rush her to Xray to see if something else wasn't cracked. Yet over 400 people bought those crazy things from us last year. What can I say?

I have 4 professionally done sites that don't do 1/2 what that one does. I guess people look at it and say it is so homely it must be honest?

The robot mower distributors don't want me to change it because I sell so much. It was put up there as a test site so I could learn HTML, but people started buying off it like mad!

Anyway, thank you for noticing- and I agree, but it is a cash cow.
