In my personal opinion they deserved to be kicked off. They sound like spoiled brats (the parents that is), who do not care about any of the other passengers. They got free airlines tickets to use anywhere but still said they will never use air tran again. What do you think?

They could NOT take off until the child was put in her seat and the parents just needed some more time to "console her?" Oh, geez, give me a freaking break! Strap the kid in and take off.

I absolutely agree with kicking them off the plane. They got reimbursed PLUS 3 tix. There is no need to keep the whole plane on the ground because of 1 screaming child since the parents couldn't keep their child under control

Sounds like the airline was more than fair.

They did the right thing. Why should people miss their connecting flights because some parent cannot control their child.

Even as a parent and even knowing how unpredictable toddlers can be, I still side with the airline. They had no way to know if it was going to take another fifteen minutes or another hour to get the situation under control. And it's not fair to the rest of the passengers. Any other person creating a disturbance that is keeping the plane from taking off would have also been put off the plane.
As far as the family never flying that particular airline again, I'm sure the crew is breathing a sigh of relief. LOL

Dang i feel they were over compensated considering this was their fault, good for air tran for kicking them off!!
If my 3 yr old was acting like that id excuse myself off the plane and take another flight till she was calmed down, out of consideration for others who I'm sure didn't want to keep sitting there. But really this would never happen to me my kids love going bye bye.

Just like screaming and kicking kids in restaurants! Very annoying to everyone else who is a paying customer! What happened to old fashioned parenting? If you can't quiet your kid, then take them out!

Parents may think they kids are "cute" or just need to be calmed down but I dont think they are cute...hell, I dont even think mine is cute half the time.
Why should someone miss their connecting flights?

At 3 years old she's old enough to know how to sit in her sit. Good for the airline.

"The father said his family would never fly AirTran again."
Good! Now, we all know that if WE fly AirTran, we won't run into them. :)

DAILY I have to deal with instant gratifiying and self narcisstic assholes. I won't apologize. I raised my son, if he acted this way, it would be a trip to the bathroom and a spanking. No coddling, no excuses for her/his behavior.
I am soooo tired of seeing toddlers/tweens/teens ruling our world. God help us.

Unbelievable! My DDs know how to behave and would never think of trying that. When my twins were about 3 they took their second flight (their first was at 9 months). One cried as we boarded because of the noise but only for a few seconds. We talked to her and gave her the things we brought to occupy them and she was fine. Both quickly sat in their seats because we told them to. When we landed many people stopped to chat with her.
I completely agree with the airline. It is the parents' responsibility - not the airlines' - to handle the kids' tantrums.

Please. I took my children from Tulsa to Germany with layovers in Atlanta, New York, and Amsterdam. My kids were 3 months and 2 1/2 years and they were not a problem at all.

The airline was right! I hate to see this 3 year old in 10 years.

just watched a clip of the family on our local news. while the parents sat on the couch blaming the airlines the girl was all over the place. the mother was complaining that they wouldnt just let her sit in her lap. i can just see if that happened and the plane took off hitting a bump or whatnot, the girl falling off the mothers lap and busting her lip open. the family would then have been suing!
i think the airline went above and beyond refunding and gifting another 3 tickets.
control your children or remove them if they cannot be, its the parents job.
i have a 8 year old with adhd/odd, cannot tell you how many things we have missed out on because i respect the people around me and have had to leave.

That kid sounds like a real uncontrollable class A brat. Glad they kicked them off.

I am sick of the crappy parents who allow their kids to control them and think everybody else should overlook little Johnny or Jane because afterall they are just little cute angels. lol..

The airline was absolutely right. Thank goodness they took action. I fly out of Orlando all the time so there are always small children on flights in and out and it's unbelievable to me the way parents sometimes won't control their kids ... and the way they act as if everyone around them should just suck it up and put up with whatever disturbance their chidlren happens to be causing. We once spent an excruciating long flight with a family in front of us -- mother, father and three small children with the kids whining and crying and screaming and kicking the seats the entire flight and one of them having a temper tantrum for most of the flight. WHen we finally landed, my significant other made a comment *to me* under their breath about it and about being glad to be home and getting away from it ... and the mother of the brat had the unmitigated gall to turn around and start screaming at my SO for daring to criticize for her bratty little darling! Now, mind you, we'd sat there and never said a single word to her or her kids the entire flight and hadn't said anything then, either, but heaven forfend that we express displeasure in any way shape or form ...
I do have a big mouth, I'm afraid, and I was already annoyed. I told her to #$%*( off. At which point she *really* got mad and wanted to know if I had just cursed in front of her child. ROFLMAO.

While I can sympathize,(kids do have their moments) If my kids was that upset I wouldn't want to be confined at 35000 feet with them, so I sure as heck would not expect 112 other folks to be stuck with them! Air Tran did the right thing.

This was on the local news again this morning. Over 90% of the people that wrote to Airtran said the airline did the right thing.

I realized that the reports and clips aired on our local news were unfair to Airtran once I read the newspaper reports and online news. The mother states in the clip something like " I wanted people to know this is what can happen if your child cries too much." The TV news made it sound like it was all just about the child making noise and crying. When you read the papers, you find it was a safety issue because she would not get in her seat and put on a seat belt as is required for all passengers. Of course these parents believe that their child is the exception to all rules and that this flight and all flight proceding forward from this flight should be delayed because their daughteris naughty. Get a clue! you may believe your child is the ultimate being on earth but others do not!
These parents still think it was just about the crying.

I agree with you too. This child shouldn't be allowed to do this. They are going to have much bigger problems down the road with this child...these parents need to call in the Nanny!!!!

The parents obviously don't believe in discipline. And of course they wish to sue anyone who denies their little darling anything. I wish Airtran flew out of my area. It would be my airline of choice.

I was afraid to look in this thread thinking I'd be in the minority. Good to see that I was wrong...
Air Tran, my new favorite airline.

Somebody ought to show this story to that lady in congress who's trying to pass the no-spanking law.
