View Full Version : Business Days or Days??? Hubby and I on vacation, he won Macaroni Grill...

So I open DH's email after vacation, and see that on the 22nd ePrize sent us an affidavit because he won one of the 232 first prizes--dinner one night a month for a year, worth $600.

Affidavit says it must be notarized, signed and returned within 10 days.

The 10th day, calendar, is Tuesday. The earliest we can get it notarized is Tuesday, since the mail doesn't go out and all offices with notaries are closed until then. I am a notary, but cannot sign David's affidavit (I can't notarize for family). I'm hoping someone is there today, I'm going to drop in and hope there is a paralegal backed up that is working the weekend...

BUT, do you think or anyone know if 10 days means calendar or business? since it's the holiday season, especially? I sent ePrize an email asking, and told them I would be glad to fax it to them on Tuesday, and hopefully they will go for that. But anyone out there know?

I don't want to get excited about this win until I know we won it! :sherlock:

E-mail them, call them, do what you need to do right now. Keep a copy and they may have you fax it when you talk to them. They'll probably work with you.

That's a neat prize by the way!

First of all congratulations - I really wanted that prize!!!! Secondly, I would think it means business days, but I'm sure if you call, or fax the affidavit and then follow up with a hard copy, it should be fine. Most j/a's are ususally good to work with, and taking the holidays into consideration, I think you'll be OK, but I would definitely call on Tuesday.

I can't do it today, folks.

Banks, etc. closed until Tuesday, I can't get a notary. I don't live in a big enough city where banks are open on Saturday. Tuesday is the earliest I can get it in.

BUT, I think you are right...if I fax it Tuesday with a note that I'm mailing the hard copy that is within the deadline and I should be ok.

Hope it works out for you.

See if there is a UPS Store Kinko's etc. in the area with a notary in and get it notarized today and fax it noting hard copy original will follow. 10 days usually means 10 calendar days. Usually it expressly indicates business days if that it what is meant!

I think, not positive though, that banks are closed on Tuesday too for Gerald Ford. I really could be wrong though. I know the PO is closed on Tuesday.

I really hope everything works out for you. :gvibes:

We won a great trip while back and the turn around time to get the notarized affy back was short, like 5 days (which included the 4th of July Holiday).
I got it notarized that day and paid extra at the Post office to overnight it certified w/ return receipt, just to cover all my bases. (You can also track it on the USPS website).
It was worth the little bit of extra money to ensure it got back on time and to give me peace of mind, because we really, really wanted to take that trip.

Congratulations on your win!

Check with your church secretary and ask all your friends if they are a notary or know someone who is. I'll bet they'd be happy to do it for you.

I sympathize with the worried feelings you are having.
So I just looked in our Yellow Pages (we live in a larger city) under Notaries-Public and they list all the UPS stores in town and also a few Bail Bond companies.
Might be worth a try to check out your Yellow Pages and see if you can find a Notary there.

Congratulations ans good luck!

Dang girl, wish I had seen this sooner. The Wachovia in Vinton was open till 1. Have you tried Bank of America in Vinton? I think they stay open till like 3.

Call the Ford Company over by the Civic Center, I know they have a notary. Maybe you could have it done there for a fee.

Send them an email and let them know you are working on this, get it notarized ASAP, then FAX a copy immediately after getting it notarized with a note that the original is being mailed. Priority mail or another method with tracking might be a good idea.

Oh, and be sure to fill in the prize amount on the affy before FAX'ing/mailing - they kick it back if that is not filled in (why couldn't they do that to begin with :) )?

I would start calling - a lot of the express mail places also have notary services - any place legal has it too - many will have saturday hours today -- good luck!

It may be worth taking a drive on Tuesday if your town is still closed for the hoilday. Get the phone book out for the next town.
What about your Ins. co. they may help you. If you have your agents cell phone number, give him a call. Tell him you'll take him out for dinner.
Or if you go to church maybe on Sunday someone there may help. Ask your Pastor.

DH is coming to my office on Tuesday, he'll get it notarized (I work in a law office, all of us are notaries, I just can't notarize for family) and I'll fax it that day with a letter that the original is being mailed Priority. This is within the deadline and I'm sure will be accepted.

There is basically nothing else I can do, so if something happens and we lose out, they will just draw another winner and it will teach me a lesson to try to check his email more often.

Usually when dealing with a deadline via mail, it is days mail runs. Since there was the 24th, 25th, the 31st and 1st and now the 2nd, you most likely have plenty of time. I agree, notarize ASAP then fax with note. It'll work out!!

Tell hubby to get on the ball with the email!!

Well congrats...................and good luck trying to get anyone from Eprize to respond. From my experience if they do answer emails it takes forever and they dont return phone messages left. If you call and hit the option to get the receptionist you still wont get anyone other than her.

After calling several times and asking who handled a certain promotion I finally just asked the receptionist is she was prohibited from giving names...........she answered yes. Doesnt say much when they wont even give you a specific persons name regarding a promotion.

at how eager a Realtor will be to assist you with this -- locating his/her office's Notary, or tracking one down out in the real world somewhere... They see this kind of assistance as likely to generate word-of-mouth appreciation, which statistically leads to income for them... So don't be bashful -- call around today (Sunday) and you'll likely be able to FAX the notarized document and Priority Mail it on Tuesday, no problem...

And yes, particularly over the holidays, "days" are "business days, not counting holidays" -- I'm quoting directly from an email conversation I had with eprize, not that long back...

I think that I've mentioned twice in this thread that everyone I work with are notaries, even me. But I can't notarize for family, legally.

Dave is coming to my office on Tuesday, I'll get another to notarize this affy, fax it and then mail it Priority. I am certain this will be fine.

Happy New Year everyone!
