View Full Version : OMG! Section 114 Final Four!
March 29th, 2003, 2:28pm
I just got word from the Cingular people and she sent the package with tickets out today to be in my hands Monday morning. She told me the tickets are in section 114 which are courtside smack dab in the middle seats! I'm scanning the internet now and I see they go for $5000-$7500 each!
I don't know what the process is in selling them but I called a ticket exchange place here in town and they offered me $5000 for them total. He assured me he gets contest wins like this all the time and it's fine to sell them, they won't have my name on it. But she made it sound like since it's VIP seating, I'd have to show my ID. Don't know what to do now........
Help????? I really need the money more than a migraine I'd get from going to the game. We are going on the trip though.
BTW~ Cingular rules!!!!!

WOW!! You've hit the jackpot if you could sell them and I hope you can. I dont know much about that process, but good luck!!
AWESOME!! let us know the outcome:D

Wow that's great. I was hoping for th t.v. because I couldn't take the trip and figured the tickets wouldn't sell for much. I figured i'd sell the t.v. but my wife said no way so now I have 6 t.v.'s. Get moving on selling those tickets, that's awesome.

Sell! Sell! Sell! But try Ebay first. I don't think you have much time either. You can probably get $10,000 for all of them. You might want to go through a third party broker that will charge a small commission. But he/she can find legit buyers in a jiffy.
March 29th, 2003, 3:01pm
That is awesome!!! Now you really got some spending money for your trip!!! Have a great time!!!:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

WOW!! Super congratulations on your fantastic win!! You certainly are on a big winning streak and I am very happy for you.
I would ask the sponsor, after receiving the tickets, if they have any objection to you giving/selling them to someone. The worst thing they can say is no.
What a great win - way to go!!

Sell and get a good price. Hope it is a lovely exchange for you Lex.:smile3:

That is an absolutely STUPENDOUS win!! Hooray again and best of luck getting big $$$$ selling those puppies!!:cheer3: :cheer5: :cheer3:

Wow, this is fun. I keep calling brokers and they ask me how much I want and I just say I've gotten a bid of $5000 and they say OK, yeah, we're interested, then I call someone else and I say (I'm totally making this up) I just got a bid of $6000 and they say, Yeah, we're interested. So evidently each one is willing to top the other. So far I've gotten them up to $6000 for real.
One broker said not to say anything to the sponsor because they do NOT like when you sell the tickets to make a profit on them. I was thinking of telling her point blank after I have them in my hands Monday that I really need the cash and need to sell them but now I don't know if I should. All brokers have reassured me that they are definitely sellable regardless of which contest I won them through, all tickets look the same. And they have top buyers, millionaire types who are buying them, they will not go out on the streets, etc....it's just too late to put them on e-bay so I think the broker thing is the way to go.
Should I tell the lady from Cingular who worked so hard to put the package together? Or not? We are definitley going on the trip, just not the games. Opinions please.....
March 29th, 2003, 3:22pm
I wouldn't say anything...just pocket the cash, and have yourself a good time!
March 29th, 2003, 3:23pm
WTG, congrats on the win! :cheer:
March 29th, 2003, 10:34pm
Lex, have you tried bigger towns or at least the town where the final four will be played?
March 29th, 2003, 11:02pm
that is fabulous! I hope you spend the hell out of that money...oops can I say that? Have fun!
March 30th, 2003, 6:34am
Darn... I wish I had the $$. If I had won, I'd be at that game.
Anyway, my opinion is simply take the tickets, don't say anything, and sell them. YOU won them. They're yours to do whatever you want with them. I think if you're gracious about the win and the trip, the Cingular lady will be satisfied. It's not like they'll have somebody escorting you or taking publicity photos, right?

Geez, what a pain. MY bf and I have been arguing since I found out about the tickets. He keeps telling me over and over that it's illegal to sell them and the sponsor can come after me. It says in the rules all prizes are non-transferable except with the permission of the sponsor. I don't think that meant the tickets, just the airfare and hotel, but anyway, it probably does. So now what. There's a variey of excuses I can use with the war and the new pneumonia virus that's killing people, two cases reported in Seattle last night, and my health hasn't been great, was hoping to use the money to pay off my Harborview bills....should I tell her now and possibly have to "forfeit" the prize or leave it to the last minute and use one of those excuses and cancel? It says if we forfeit the prize that it becomes property of the sponsor.
Anybody won anything to a sporting event or concert or something and sold your tickets? What happened? Did you go on the trip anyway, just not to the event? OR did you pass on everything and use the money from selling the tickets to pay the taxes for the whole trip?
I don't mean to be ungrateful but this truly is a pain in the butt. Now I'm scared I'll get in trouble or something. I'd love to go to the games, but I'd rather have 6 grand.
March 30th, 2003, 1:56pm
Settle down. If it was illegal to sell the tickets all the ticket brokers would be shut down. They run a legitimate business and pay legitimate taxes. (Gomez-stay out of this...)
Just get the tickets in your hot little hands and sell them to the ticket broker. You will be doing someone who really wanted to attend who has the money a big favor. There's your good karma right there. The Lady probably doesn't really give a personal shuckwatty what you do. So she doesn't need TOO MUCH INFORMATION.
Have I bought tickets from a broker? Heck yeah! Thank God for them or I'd never get to make eye contact with my favorite rockstars short of winning great tickets.
Have I sold tickets? Heck yeah! If I stand on line for umpteen hours having gotten up hours before it's sane to do so and have the opportunity to get four good tickets instead of two, I sell the two other tickets to pay for my other two.
I sold the Alice Cooper tickets I'd bought after I won tickets and backstage passes. Or I sold the ones I won. Doesn't matter-all the same tickets.
And there are ticket brokers in the city where it's being held, so yes, you may get a higher amount for them from a broker there.
Good luck. That is an awesome windfall.

First, a BIG congratulations on your BIG win. I can share with you that my daughter won a pair of Laker playoff luxury box seats for last seasons playoffs from a major grocery chain and sold them.
Her situation may be slightly different from yours because she did have to go pick them up in person from the sponsor but once she did that, she sold them and the buyer was able to go to the game without any problem.
March 30th, 2003, 2:00pm
Since Im not a big basketball fan, I'd sell and keep quiet about it. Im guessing they won't know, i hardly see them Going to the section and asking for your id!
When I won my trip to see Peter Gabriel, I could have just met him and left before the concert, they had no idea if I actually went or not, so bottom line, if it were me, I'd sell.
Hope you get top money for them and congrats again on a nice win!!
p.s. I sold a pair of KISS tickets I won and no one ever knew or cared.:grin2:
March 30th, 2003, 2:10pm
I agree.......take the big bucks!!!! I'd love to be able to go and watch my Marquette team, but sure can't afford it:cry: Go, have a great time, and spend, spend, spend!!!:cheer: Congrats on the win!!! PK
March 30th, 2003, 2:11pm
What's the worse they can do, if you sell them. I don't think they will bill you for $6000. Go sell them and see what happens.
Congratulations! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

Problem is, the person who is in charge of promotions and sending the tickets out and stuff WILL be at the game and will meet me at the hotel. She is not affiliated with the Sponsor at all, just is with the promotional agency. She's in the 500 section and is envious of our tickets, stated that she tried to get tickets down there with us but couldn't, also stated that all 14 winners will be seated together and shuttled together to and from the games. Geez, Louise....looks like I'm gonna have to go. It'll be fun anyway, lots more celebrities to meet! And I've been watching all the games and love Marquette and Kansas. I just can't believe how much they go for! But, I'd be crazy not to take the money.
Would they sue me for not forfeiting the package? No, right? My bf already had an attorney look over the rules and said they could sue me for selling the tickets without telling the Sponsor since I'm supposed to forfeit them instead. I'm totally freaking out over this. But like I said given the circumstances of the country right now I don't think they would take any legal action. If she wasn't going to the games, it'd be a lot easier and I'd sell in a minute.
It'll be interesting to know what comes out of this whole fiasco!
March 30th, 2003, 5:49pm
Well, you didn't previously mention she'd be there. If she wants your tickets so bad, them why doesn't SHE buy them? :)
How will she know the people sitting in your assigned seats aren't you? What if she confronts you by phone or letter and you simply tell her you weren't up to going and didn't want the tickets to go to waste? I guess I think it would be a ridiculous waste of their time and money to sue you over a pair of tickets.
Pretty weird that possession is 9/10 of the law, but you have no rights to your own tickets.
If you think it will be a great time and your bf thinks it will be a great time then go. I'm sure I'm just speaking from an intense dislike of basketball and an intense like of cash! ;)
And jeannie! You sold KISS tickets you won??? That's almost sacreligious (however that's spelled)! Gold I say-KISS tickets are like gold! :grin5:

Thanks Mare and everybody else. I'm gonna go on the trip and just go from there. I'm sure I can sell them at any point I want and yes, they should be mine once they are in my hands. I think you can only forfeit a prize by not signing the affy in the required time they give you so I already claimed my prize, whether I want to take the trip or go to the games should be up to me. Plus, you'd think they would tell you up front that you cannot sell the tickets under any circumstances if that were the case. I was just freaking out. But thanks for the encouraging words.
Now, I'm getting really really excited!! I can't wait to go. And I'll keep everyone posted on what happened with the tickets! I leave on Friday 3am to get to the airport in time. It'll be good to get away from home anyway!
Love you all!!!

Have a great time!! Enjoy your trip!:cheer:

Congrats on a great win!
I read thru the posts and was wondering... if you broached the subject with the sponsor that your "cousin" is a big fan and has had some recent tragedy in his life and you are considering "giving" him the tickets.
It might be a stretch but may give you the answer you need, ie. Can the tickets be transferred ?
Be prepared they may ask for his name for the VIP entry to the seating. In which you can respond that you haven't decided yet and can get back with them if they HAVE to know.
Hope it all works to your benefit

Big wins cause a great deal of stress (no kidding--even GOOD news can throw you). Relax. Take lots of deep breaths. You'll make the right decision and things will work out fine. REALLY.:smile5:
March 31st, 2003, 4:32pm
Wow, I am so envious of not winning this prize for myself!:grin5:
Especially with the location of the seats, you would be crazy not to go. Bring a camera, I'm sure you will see quite a few celebrities down near the court (who do you think can actually afford those tickets anyway!). Have fun!
