I have been on AOL ever since I got on-line. Lately, I have been experiencing terrible problems with getting on-line and staying on-line. I was just wondering what internet service every one else is using as I might sign up somewhere else to give it a try.

I use AT&T worldnet, and I think it's a pretty good provider.

I have used many different isp's over the last 5 years. By far, the best is ATT WorldNet.

Have Charter cable but as a back up, I use arczip.com which is a dial-up with loads of local numbers for access. It is only 15 bucks a month and they give you 100 megabytes of web space as part of the deal! The web space was the big selling point for me.

I use cable service (which helps a lot since we have 4 pcs)

You might try using this ISP price guide.
http://www.theispguide.com/

You can search on your city or area code to see what services are available in your area and compare the prices. I've tried Aol and MSN and was not impressed by either of them. I've heard good things about People PC so far. Not sure what's near you, so go ahead and try the price guide. Make sure you go to the individual websites and check them out thoroughly. :)

Good luck!

I get mine though my phone company. DSL @ $50.00. Love my phone company. It's a co-op, so I am a owner too. At the yearly meeting they give away a $50 credit and we have won the past 2 years. :cheer: They give 5 per exchange and it's rare that there are more that 10 from our exchange (great odds!!). We also get a check once a year on the profits. Last year we got $165. Our 2nd year with them they sold a part of the company (satalite tv) and got a $1500 check. They also have 6 1/2 cents on long distance (in state too), good thing because everyone (almost) is long distance. They offer excellent customer service, when I call by 9AM they are out here by 11AM. I just can't say enough good things about them.

Apologies to AOL - it is not their problem. My modem is going bad - I have been dealing with AOL, my computer manufacturer and my phone company and have finally determined that it is my modem. I have to send the computer in for repair. 5 to 10 business days, Oh what will I do!!!! Can't be off-line so long

Lander,

Thanks for the tip on ISP site shopping! I'm going to take that little goodie in my favorites (I have a folder for shopping stuff - may even remember to look there if I get fed up and decide to shop ISP).

Nowniki - I'm GLAD you got the problem figured out - that is usually the hardest part! (unless, of course, you are a hard core sweeper/OLS forum reader - then being without is hardest!).

Could you go to local library and get on line there as kind of a quick fix til its back??

Good luck! We'll miss you if you can't come talk to us! (but I'll enter your sweeps for you! Tee Hee!)

I switched from AOL to a no-frills $10 a month ISP just because I concluded AOL was overpriced, and I really didn't use their proprietary information. My new ISP is GBROnline.com
